    OPI Zero boot with SPI

Hi, I am trying to make the OPI Zero boot with the help of the onboard SPI with the goal to boot from an usb drive and not from the sdcard. What steps should be executed. I only managed to get the Xenial image to work with my 512Mb board... so that is what I want to use. I assume... I need to make u-boot work with the sdcard... move the whole thing to the usb drive (with the u-boot) and than populate somehow the SPI with the image of an SPL, which would get it up through the u-boot on the usb. So I would need some in depth guidance (best would be some example commands to be used), what steps and tools should be executed to make it work. Thanks in advance & regards /R

  4. I recently have been trying to enable SNAPD (SNAPPY) on 16.04 MATE and server. sudo apt install snapd installs fine, but when I try install a 'snap' it fails. this should work on 16.04. sudo snap install hello-world large error dump --- very misleading... When I checked to see what is going on with required apparmor module, I found it wasn't working. When I checked the kernel I found to my surprise that apparmor wasn't enabled. This has been enabled by default on Ubuntu for many, many years... It would appear that several kernel flags need to be set in order for apparmor to work set CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y "If AppArmor should be selected as the default security module then set CONFIG_DEFAULT_SECURITY="apparmor" set CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_BOOTPARAM_VALUE=1" Q: how do I enable this when I build an Armbian kernel? 6. Hello, currently I am working on my Orange pi one system (Armbian Linux orangepione 3.4.113-sun8i #10 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 23 19:55:00 CET 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux) to get my ILI9341-TFT display to work using the fb_ili9341 kernel module. I have read a lot of documentation and the display works (using the fb_ili9341 module) attached to my cubeitruck (also running armbian). I think that the problem is the GPIO- kernel module of the Orange PI one. 8. Hello, I have got my Orange Pi PC+ reading a DS18B20, but it only gives 0.5 degree increments so I believe the resolution is set to 9 bit. This is nowhere near good enough for the application I plan to use it for. When I cat w1_slave I get: 90 01 80 01 1f ff 02 04 5c : crc=5c YES 90 01 80 01 1f ff 02 04 5c t=25000 I have attempted to use this: https://github.com/danjperron/BitBangingDS18B20 but it appears to be specifically for RaspPi. Does anyone know how I can change the resolution to 11 or 12 bit? Many thanks

  11. Hi! Yesterday I get my first build of a NanoPi port of pi4j (http://pi4j.com/) running. A simple test with a double color led on a NanoPi M1 works fine. Actually I am going to adapt the board specific code. Hence some questions are open. Is there a simple way to differ NanoPi Boards by SW (NanoPi M1, Neo and Air) to set the correct board? Memory size of the board The Raspberry code uses the revision string of /proc/cpuinfo to retrieve this informations. But this info is PI specific. Any idea how to get this info? Using C is not a problem - pi4j is a mix of Java and native libraries. Peter P.S: Java Example File - don't be confused - the extension bsh stands for bean shell, scripting for Java - quick testing without compiling script.bsh

Device Tree Overlays info and help?

I have an orange pi lite and I'm building my (dev 4.10) image using the Armbian tools. So far I figured out how to enable the DT overlays located in /boot/dtb/overlays by editing the armbianEnv.txt file and adding overlays=sun8i-h3-uart1 sun8i-h3-uart2 sun8i-h3-uart3 sun8i-h3-i2c0 sun8i-h3-spi0-spidev This now enables the various uart, i2c and spi ports I wish to use and that works. I'm trying to now set up a ADS7846 Touch controller using DTB I have copied the file from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/raspberrypi/linux/rpi-4.4.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/overlays/ads7846-overlay.dts and run dtc -I dts -O dtb ads7846-overlay.dts -o /boot/dtb/overlays/ads7846-overlay.dtbo and changed overlays in armbianEnv.txt to overlays=sun8i-h3-uart1 sun8i-h3-uart2 sun8i-h3-uart3 sun8i-h3-i2c0 sun8i-h3-spi0-spidev ads7846-overlay and rebooted. ads7846-overlay doesn't work and according to the information https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/blob/master/boot/overlays/README there is supposed to be extra params supplied as part of the dt load How do I add the settings? Thanks Andrew

XR819 fails to load kernel 3.4.113

Hello, I just bought an OPi-Zero and loaded Ubuntu image with legacy kernel(tried the debian one too).Wifi is failing to load for some reason.I checked various posts in armbian forum and checked that xradio_wlan driver is loaded twice,as suggested. kernel module dhd is blacklisted as well. This is the dmesg output, After seeing all that I loaded nightly build 4.10.1 and there xradio_wlan only posts one message and that is about mac-address being an invalid parameter but it doesnt load any wlan interface and as a result nmtui doesnt work either. I tried building 4.10.1 using armbian build package to see if some fix came up but the results are same. Now, is there anything I need to fix there? I know that the board could be faulty but want to give it a shot as the seller probably wont give me a replacement.

    HDMI dimming to black

Dear all, Recently I purchased Orange Pi Lite. I installed recommended Armbian with Legacy 3.4.113 kernel as there is no mainline image yet. When pushing the power button a logo appears, the screen goes black and after 10 seconds command prompt with login appears with no dmesg output on screen while loading kernel image and services that all is already loaded but no output shown. So far, I am happy with it, BUT when I run Vim command to open certain file, I see it opens the file and screen dimms in few seconds to complete darkness, the only way how to get out of this black screen is to switch to another console, when I switch back, it again appears and dimms to black as usual. The same problem I experience with X11. Has anyone experiences same problem? Do you happen to know what to cause might be? I suspect the TV does not communicate over HDMI properly and maybe the TV is going to some safe mode, but I guess it was designed for HDMI standard and so far I did not find anyone on the forum to experience at least similar problem, moreover I would somehow understand that running X11 could possibly cause some problems due to framebuffer and driver issues, but why Vim in console does the same problem? I also think that the blank booting process is also not properly done as any Linux distribution I used, I either has some boot screen or simply shows the booting process line by line, maybe it tries to use framebuffer but fails and does not fall back printing mode without framebuffer. Could any please give me a hint? I am going to find another TV to try it on. Thank you very much Best regards, Ivo
  15. Hi I want to build armbian for nanopi neo with a different mainline. What I have done is 1. added lib.config file in userpatches with statement ARMBIAN_MAINLINE_KERNEL_VERSION='4.9' that didn't work, I still get a 4.10.1 kernel build 2. then changed configration.sh ARMBIAN_MAINLINE_KERNEL_VERSION='4.9' that didn't work either, I got 4.10.1 kernel build Any other tricks? -jerry
  16. I recently updated the OS (apt-get dist-upgrade), for one of my test systems, and subsequent to this Kismet has stopped working with the wlan0 interface. Everything was working properly before this update. I see it (and wlan0mon) showing Promiscuous mode in the output of iwconfig. I'm not really a Linux person, so any pointers on how I can diagnose/repair?
  17. Hi, anyone used this driver with success on A20 legacy? This is what i get: Seems that it can load ethernet and mass storage without problem but it fails on serial. If I run g_serial alone it works: Any ideas?

USB Devices on 5.25 doesn't work well

Hello I have a little problem with the usb devices, i use usb camera and if u plug the power supply to the OPI Lite board (5.25) it recognize the camera but it doesn't work well (stream with like 8-10 fps), after a software reboot, the device go to other Bus and the camera work fine with 15-30 fps stream. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter I try to remove and after that load again uvcvideo driver, but nothing happened, i tried some scripts to restart the usb ports but the result was 0, only if i unplug and plug the camera again or reboot solve the problem. Also i tried with different power supplies and nothing changed. Currently we use chargers from the Orange Pi manufacture so this is the best power supply i guess. Any ideas how can i configure the camera to be on Bus 3 and tha wifi dongle to be on Bus 2 or some other solution to the problem?

  22. I upgraded some day ago to a new release and I experiencing increase cpu heat. My OPI Zero is running 24/7 and most of the time (99%) it has nothing to do. So its in idle. When I run >> ARMBIAN Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 3.4.113 have cpu idle temp around 38-39c (room temperature 22c) After the upgrade to >> ARMBIAN 5.25 stable Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 3.4.113 increased the idle temperature to 49-50c (room temperature 22c) Am I alone with this problem..? I dont see any increase in processor activities, but I did not analysed which processes are running and different after the upgrade. Been using, armbianmonitor -m to keep an eye on the temperature. To avoid OPI Zero does funky stuff (push it self up to top freq. in idle)... I even tried to force the top cpu frequency to the minimum (240MHz), but it did not helped regarding the temperature increase. Did the upgrade changed any voltage related parameter? How can I check that? --

    OPI Zero remove wifi

I would like to remove wifi from my Zero... dont need it. The device will not be used network connected. It will serve as an OTG usb dongle only. How to remove or reinstall all wifi related components? It would be also great how to enable / disable ethernet connection from command line... is it just nmcli network off / nmcli network on or is there a more efficient way to do it?
  24. Hi, tried to set custom MAC in script.bin (dynamic section) and in armbianEnv.txt (ethaddr=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX) but without success. I'm on armbian 5.25 cubietruck legacy xenial. Any help?
  25. I would like to remove "everything" from the installation, which I don’t need, with the goal to minimize the footprint. I installed tasksel and its show a lot of packages on disk... so my question is what can be removed to keep a basic ubuntu server without a desktop interface and with some most used functions and files. I tried to remove some of them, like… ubuntustudio-videoubuntustudio-photography ubuntustudio-graphics mail-server ubuntu-gnome-desktop ... I can imagine to remove all CD installation and images as well... …but my problem is that if I for example remove “ubuntu-gnome-desktopâ€, the OPI Zero is not answering on ssh request any more. So, for me its looks like it does more than just removing the desktop components. Any idea how I can sort this out what package can be removed…?
