QtWebKit: Input of special characters (é, ñ, ¿, ü, ß) doesn't work

I installed and compiled varios browsers based on QtWebKit - falkon, konqueror, otter-browser - and they are all pretty fast compared to their chromium/firefox colleagues.

Unfortunately, the input of special characters (é, ñ, ü, ß) doesn't work. The letters appear as UTF code.

However, the letters are displayed correctly in chromium/midori/firefox, and the console.

Thus, I blame Qt.

This is very annoying e.g. for webmailing and editing text, since typing in languages with special characters such as Spanish and German is practically impossible.

Any idea how to fix that?
