Ubuntu 17.04? intermediate releases?

Looks like at present Armbian is based on LTS only. I am in particular annoyed by the outdated Samba release 4.3.11 in Ubuntu 16.04 and thus Armbian.

Any chance that there might be a variant of Armbian adopting intermediate (yet stable) releases in the future? Or is there a way to upgrade Armbian or Samba without compiling myself?
