lukaszjokiel
I got OPi with the 2xUSB official HAT and noticed that it is running very hot: 52 when starting and going to 62 after a while - just idling: Time CPU load %cpu %sys %usr %nice %io %irq CPU 18:56:12: 912MHz 0.20 2% 1% 0% 0% 0% 0% 55°C 18:56:17: 240MHz 0.18 2% 1% 0% 0% 0% 0% 54°C 18:56:23: 240MHz 0.25 2% 1% 0% 0% 0% 0% 56°C System is: # cat /etc/armbian-release # PLEASE DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BOARD=orangepizero BOARD_NAME="Orange Pi Zero" VERSION=5.24 LINUXFAMILY=sun8i BRANCH=default ARCH=arm Linux orangepizero 3.4.113-sun8i #50 SMP PREEMPT Mon Nov 14 08:41:55 CET 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux (no SPI flash, 256M version) This is AFTER two heatsinks applied. System has single DVB-T stick with tvheadend idling. WiFi is not connected but not turned off as it kills the eth interface communication (link is OK) but that as different issue The only other not standard thing is the original chassis from the store (yeah it just looks sweet, no intention on using it really).Question: Is the default armbian configured to feed to high voltage as mentioned in the "Orange Pi Zero went to market" thread? Or is this just the chassis/case?
cjctan
Hi lukaszjokiel, You are not alone... I'm also having similar high temp issue on the Zero whereas my PC+ doesn't have. / _ \ _ __ __ _ _ __ __ _ ___ | _ \(_) |__ /___ _ __ ___ | | | | '__/ _` | '_ \ / _` |/ _ \ | |_) | | / // _ \ '__/ _ \ | |_| | | | (_| | | | | (_| | __/ | __/| | / /| __/ | | (_) | \___/|_| \__,_|_| |_|\__, |\___| |_| |_| /____\___|_| \___/ |___/ Welcome to ARMBIAN Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 3.4.113-sun8i System load: 0.44 Up time: 24 sec Memory usage: 12 % of 494Mb IP: 192.168.1.65 CPU temp: 53°C Usage of /: 19% of 7.1G

CursedPotato
Raspberry Pi Zero's operating temp range is 0°C to 70°C The H2/H3 has the same safe operating range. My Zero's are running around 50C in an open case with a heatsink on. If I use an enclosed case it jumps to 57C for a high load (webcam server/octoprint) If you're worried about it add a fan, but it's a safe temperature. lukaszjokiel
I've moved to Xenial with 4.9.x kernels - removed the chassis, left the heatsinks - idle or tvheadend recording/streaming channel - from 42C up to 49C, with ambient temp of 21C. There's no support for h3consumption on this kernel, but overall seems to be more stable than Jessie with 3.11.The 3.11.x kernel was clocked max at 912MHz, while Xenial's 4.9.x goes to 1200MHz.
