Can not get the RTL8153 driver to work on Stretch or Ubuntu

When plugging in a RTL8153 gigabit ethernet adaptor, it shows up when using lsusb, however there is no driver found for it. I also went to the Realtek website and tried to compile the proper drivers for it, however, the Make process always fails. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get this to work? The adaptor says it is supported on the Armbian website. Thanks!
