I ran into what appears to be the same issue (see my log). I have added the suggested qemu-user-static package, which forced removal of another qemu- family package I had previously installed to work around problems with binfmt. Not only did it compile correctly, it also ran so much faster, as you can see in the number of log lines for this build!
