  1. Yes it is a newer ASuS, and it is running at 1920X1080P60 is that too high for the 3.4? There are a couple of lines in dmesg that says that it can't match up the frequency with a mode. it there a way to mount the monitor after the system boots?
  2. Did I make a mistake and download the wrong files.... When I open the xorg.conf file I find this Section "Device" Identifier "Allwinner A10/A13 FBDEV" Driver "fbturbo" Option "fbdev" "/dev/fb0" Option "SwapbuffersWait" "true" EndSection when I log on from SSH I get the LIME stencil instead of the MICRO stencil... I am running a Olimex Olinuxino Micro not the Lime
  3. I wanted to try 3.4 to see if I could build FFmpeg with the legacy Kernel. When I run any of the three (Trusty, Jessie, Wheezy) as soon as the script says starting Kernel, I get a few blue and green noise lines on the screen and then the screen disappears. I can use SSH and.the system is booting up and running. The one thing that I noticed is that when I log on, the name of the machine is LIME instead of MICRO. I'm running an Olimex Olinuxino Micro. Is there a config file that I need to tweek, or is the Kernel setup for a LIME? thanks MikeC
  4. thanks for uname.... I found it @ /usr/src there is a dir with the name of the kernel.
  5. Igor is doing something because if I look at the raw data in /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone/temp I get a different temp than when I log in on terminal. I was checking it by logging in through putty and then getting temp from cat temp... I got 39200. Then I log in on the terminal and I got a temp 39.4. Several tries and this was as close as they got. The range was .2 to .6.
  6. I was wondering just how big of a bag of snakes am I opening if I play with video4linux? Then the second question is it possible to run video4linux2 on the present kernel? thanks MikeC
  7. Wait a second, I put in the vanilla version Jessie and the download page says the kernel is 4.33. Will that one still work?
  8. According the download page it says the Kernel is 3.4.110. Is there a command (like cat /etc/debian_version) to check that kernel version? I'll check out the monitor, that looks pretty cool. thanks MikeC
  9. Last night I was digging through the logs, and i found an error msg that said that I was over clocking the board without without heat protection. Couple of Questions: 1 I don't have a heat sink on the CPU, do I need one? 2 I haven't done anything to the CPU speed, and running Wheezy and Jessie off of different SD's. Is overclocking turned on in the release? It is really cold here in the high Desert, right around freezing for 4 to 12 hours every night. Not as cold as northern EU, but cold. The room temp is probably 60-65 degrees F. I have the Micro in the Micro case from Olimex. Does the processor need a heat sink? thanks in advance Mike
  10. So which of the many flavors of browsers did you guys figure was the fastest? I just got Debian to run xfce4 on my Olimex Micro, and it doesn't have a preloaded web browser. I was wondering if you guys could rank the different browser selections that you tried. thanks MikeC
  11. I decided to give the version that I had found on debian a shot. I uncompressed the files and put them on a USB stick, and mounted the stick. I tried to run the configure shell and it said that I needed intltool updated. I found that and put that on the stick as well, When I ran the intltool configure it then told me that my Parser Perl was to old or not there. I couldn't find that file anywhere in the data structure, so I decided on a different approach. I decided to try turning on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on my laptop running windows, and after changing a few IP addresses, I was able to share my Internet connection from my laptop. I downloaded LXDE at a blazing 158 bytes per second. The version that I downloaded isn't the same one that I saw on the Armbian website, and looks like the one that I got on the SD from Olimex. I am also getting an error message that is saying "The name org.fredesktop.policykit1 was not provided by any .services files". Not sure what that is all about, but it seems to work. .
  12. I found it at Debian.... https://packages.debian.org/stretch/all/lxde/download I thought what I could do was move the deb file to a USB stick, mount the stick on the micro and run dd on it. I tried something like that, with my limited knowledge of Linux, and made a brick out of my SD, and had to rebuild the SD. I am getting really good at building the SD Cards..... I think that even my dog Scraps can build an SD now... hehe The site suggests that you use one of the apt-get packages instead of rolling your own, but I figured I would give it a shot.
  13. My only access to the Internet is through my phone tied to my Windows laptop, and that is why I am trying to find a way to download the img on my laptop and then move the img over to my olimex with a sd or usb stick. I found a place on line where I can download the LXDE img. Can I just put the compressed file on a USB stick and mount it on the olimex micro and install that way, or is the install command a part of the apt-get tool?
  14. I live in the desert in California and the only Internet access I have is using PDANet on my phone. Is there a way to build an SD Card using rufus (which is a great app by the way) that I can use to load LXDE on my Olimex Micro? Once I get the desktop loaded I will get PDANet working on Olimex, but this seems like the lessor of two evils. I have both Jessie and Wheezy working and I'm still running off of the SDCard's. I have SSH working in both versions if that helps. thanks in advance. Mike
  15. You know in Waynes World when the boys went to the Alice Cooper concert and got to meet Alice Cooper (they were his biggest fans)..... All they could say was "We're not Worthy.... We're not Worthy". That is the way I feel after downloading and installing the Jessie version of Armbian for my Olimex Micro. My hat is off to you.... Great Job!!!! It blows that awful SD I got from Olimex away..... I really want to see your desktop now.....
