You could grab the latest available Jessie image for the Plus (untested since Igor's not in the lab this week) from here http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/617-wip-orange-pi-one-support-for-the-upcoming-orange-pi-one/?p=5476 and if's not already coming up with a desktop then follow the steps outlined in our documentation to add a normal user and upgrade to a desktop environement:
apt-get -y install xorg lightdm xfce4 tango-icon-theme gnome-icon-theme
reboot
and report then back in the aforementioned thread. Please also have a look in our new H3 Mini FAQ in the meantime. I would also suspect that you have to adjust /boot/boot.cmd so that it reads
setenv bootargs "console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 rootwait rootfstype=ext4 cgroup-enable=memory swapaccount=1 sunxi_fb_mem_reserve=32 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 panic=10 consoleblank=0 enforcing=0 loglevel=1"
(use mkimage afterwards as outlined in the documentation -- link above)
