Okay, so ultimately I discovered that XFCE can be configured to auto-start x11vnc and the procedure is described here https://www.megaleecher.net/Raspberry_Pi_VNC_Setup, although the /boot/config.txt doesn't exist on my OPiLite in which comment out hdmi_force_hotplug=1. the downside to this approach is the service doesn't automatically restart if it fails, which it seems prone to quite often. Thanks Igor. I think I worked out that I don't appear to have nodm but that lightdm is handling the autologin. I thin my next step is to find /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf to see if i can edit this file to disable the autologin. Alternatively, I may use X11 to control the console session rather than the using aforementioned RDP session solution. I tried installing TightVNC on the Opi Lite, which worked, but I still couldn't connect to the console session, only an additional session.

Hi, is anyone able to help on my question above - I can't imagine it's that difficult for an experienced Linux person. I found advice regarding the contents of the nodm file in https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5372-activate-auto-login-on-boot-for-nightly-build/ but I don't seem to have the file in /etc/default/nodm and if I do sudo find / -name nodm nothing is found. Am I right in believe nodm is installed ans used for the autologon to the GUI in the Armbian_5.75_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.20 installation? Thanks

Hi, Following advice regarding the Ubunto 18.04 issue where RDP throws you back to the login window if an account is already logged into the console, I'd like to disable autologon to the GUI on my Armbian_5.75_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.20 installation. I've looked up a couple of similar questions on this issue on the forum already but I think the others describe disabling the GUI altogether, which I don't want to do. Is it just a case of setting the variable NODM_USER in /etc/default/nodm to equal nothing or 0 or something else? Thanks!

Hi, Do I have to create a Default Custom Command line under Preferences/Advanced in Xarchiver to allow zip files to be extracted with SU level access or is there a way within the desktop GUI to launch Xarchiver with SU level access? I want to extract a .NET binary archive to /user/local/bin, which needs SU write access. I realise I could use the command line for this but I like working with the desktop GUI. Thanks

Apologies for this noob question but I am still new to Ubunto. If a piece of software is currently available as a binary archive only and the accompanying installation advises unzipping it to "a folder" and running the software from this place I presume this is not really advisable, as would be the same in the Windows world. In which case, should I install the software in, say, /usr/share and run it from there or is it okay to just unzip it and run it out of the /home/[username]/ directory? Thanks!

Hi, I guess this question depends on knowing the OPi Lite hardware reset button capabilities before being able to answer the following question. but here goes: Does anyone know if the OPi Lite button can be scripted/coded to not only execute a shutdown or reboot command but to do both? So, say, a single short press would gracefully reboot the OS while a long press (hold for, say, 4 seconds) would perform a shutdown? Thanks!

Hi, I have an Orange PI Lite on to which I'd like to install the latest Armbian release. I had Armbian Xenial installed on the Pi Lite quite some time ago for test purposes and put it to one side while I got hardware for my Pi Lite set up for its intended use. I wiped the SD card and I was ready to download, install and set up the latest Armbian Xenial on my Orange Pi Lite when I notice the sub-heading "desktop legacy kernel 3.4.y". I'm not sure if this description appeared previously but my question is does this mean that this version, i.e. "Armbian Xenial desktop legacy kernel 3.4.y", although currently supported is no longer being updated and will therefore reach EOL within the foreseeable future? I'd like whatever version of Armbian will give me the most mileage in terms of time before I may have to consider migrating the OS to a different edition, version, etc. so checking before I go ahead with Armbian Xenial. I intend to do that but I just want the OPi Lite powered with WiFi connectivity and no other peripherals connected. I presume, like I would in Windows, that I'll get a keyboard error without a keyboard connected on start-up?

Hi, I'd like to keep the features provided in AX but have my OPi Lite starting and running some software that communicates with a webserver periodically over the internet without the monitor, keyboard and mouse connected unless performing maintenance where remote access isn't appropriate. Is this possible or am I looking at an Armbian Bionic (unsupported) installation?

Thanks, Igor. I had read that others had experienced a fair amount of heating of the H3 proc so I ordered a heatsink kit for the OPi Lite, which seems to be working well enough. Yep, it's touchable - just hope it stays that way. May get a small fan for the Perspex box if needed in the future. So no idea on the refresh rate question?

Just for my understanding of how things work, I notice the refresh rate is not specified. Is the default for the h3disp -m 1280x1024 command 60Hz? Also, where is the refresh rate saved (disp_display.c?)? Also, Igor, does your CPU on your OPi Lite get quite hot while just running the OS?

Hi, I just installed the Armbian_5.35_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img on my 32GB SD card for my new OPi Lite. On start-up the screen res overlaps the monitor a the top and bottom and the screen text is thin, fuzzy and illegible in places. I can see from the Fine Tuning section of the Armbian documentation and a post by tkaiser that the h3disp utility can be used to modify the script.bin file to permanently update the start-up screen res. I have a NEC MultiSync LCD1830 that's optimal res is 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz to 76 Hz so naturally I'm trying set this resolution. The monitor is connected to the Opi Lite via a VGA to HDMI adaptor. Since h3disp does not offer this resolution I was wondering if anyone knew what other options there are for achieving my required resolution? I'd also like to know if it is possible to populate the Armbian desktop Display app (available under the System drop-down menu) with more resolution options? The current one shows 1280 x 720, which is obviously not working well. As I am new to Armbian, I presume using sudo with h3disp under a terminal window will allow me to change the resolution from within the GUI? A
