Plan to clean up this a bit later, but I thought for now I'd lay the topic down for the forum to address.

Topic:

USB 3.1 Type-C (thunderbolt 3) as a multi port usb HUB

Regards:  (newer phones, laptops, sbc, routers etc?)

Armbian / u-boot capable devices that currently can be powered by a type-c 3.1

Reason: ?  Any thoughts on what someone would like to do with one of these? Reply with thoughts please!

My thoughts: Armbian / and or Openwrt + the 8in1 adapters = OTG FTW

Use Armbian core or friendlylywrt to plug n play managed  "smart" scripts.

Diy, router /  switch managed

or one script make an unmanaged transparent bridge with / tap

o /SPAN / aka mirror port....

Holy shit its a freakin HUB!

I think its a basically a raspberry pi zero sized board with the chip/mod for passive networking via type-c host controller.

With some freaking amazing chips. Heres the standard chips I found on my 8in1

VIA-Tech-VL817-Q7-B0_C209756
Parade-Technologies-PS176_C209703

Genesys-Logic-GL3224-ONY04_C157358
FE1.1s (B) Data Sheet 0.7

1912111437_Southchip-Semicon-SC8721QFER_C429907

P25Q40H-Puya

Heres the one I bought, but I almost bet the inside are exactly the same.. for the 8in1s ( you can find much better prices than this. mine was $20 for some daily deal)

Would be neat if the SBC could appear as a USB ethernet gadget. you can connect a raspberry pi 4 to an iPad pro via USB C like this. Would be good to do in Armbian as well.

If this help anyone whose interested wh heres the manual. looking like the drivers are realtek, which is a  relief. if anyone else has stripped a cheap type-c hub for use with armbian, would be nice to compare chipsets and pcb.. wondering how many useful unpopulated sockets can be found in the variations.

heres my

utaxo varaition manual
