hariharan Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Hi all, I'm planning to put together a low powered torrent downloader with Deliuge torrent client. One Question came to my mind. - Will the Cubieboard 1 Ubuntu image work in CLI without any mods? I want to use the Vanilla Kernel. Any guidance would be helpful.
BaronVonChickenPants Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 A Cubieboard will be perfect for this as you can connect a sata hard drive for abusable storage, flash storage is not fond of the rapid random writes of torrenting. There should be no issues with CLI and the Vanilla kernel. The vanilla kernels short comings only effect desktop requirements: Bugs or limitation * No audio or IR driver, no HW accelerated video This will have no impact on a headless torrent server. Jordan.

Thanks Jordan. I tried Armbian_4.2_Cubieboard_Ubuntu_trusty_4.1.6 and it works flawlessly. I have only encountered one issue till now. When I connect my external HDD(powered) the system freezes and it goes into kernel panic.
BaronVonChickenPants Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 My cubieboards currently aren't configured anywhere close to standard so they may not be the best reference (custom 4.2.0 kernel) but I was able to connect a Seagate Desktop USB3.0 drive without issue. Have you considered running Debian with Igor's server script: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/4-debian-micro-home-server/? Jordan.
