Blars
On Debian, raid software isn't installed by default. Try "sudo apt-get install mdadm". (I have not yet received my Orange Pi, so I have not tried Armbian.)
tkaiser
have no /proc/mdstat file. This is not a bug but a feature. It's 2017 and you really shouldn't use mdraid any more (you shouldn't use RAID-5 at all). Some reasons here: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/2921-software-raid-on-opi-pc/ The ressources wasted in RAID are better invested in a good backup strategy.
