Hi Igor, I modified my post above just as you input yours I think. It's working fine on Buster now I installed as root. That via armbian config Debian version.

If I had logged on as Root and not run Armbian-Config as Sudo, it would have worked. D'Oh! V6 running now.... 🤪

Hiya, I've been using OMV for a year or two with no issues. There were several updates to Armbian and other packages recently which caused a number of errors and the system going to sleep on my Windows network and not waking up. Rather than try and track every error, I'll just start from scratch. Last time, the OMV install from Armbian-Config worked like a dream. Load it, update it and then click OMV in the menu. Simples! This time it runs a lot of script as before, then finishes with "error openmediavault". That's it. The web browser says "Welcome to NGINX", so something has been installed. Ive tried an install and running the Debian scrip from the OMV GITHUB and it does not like that at all. Errors in BASH immediately. So currently hoping for updates (from Armbian I guess?). I'm using latest Bullseye and I guess Armbian-Config is trying to install V6?

scdc set scrambling refers to HDMI 2.0. My new monitor is HDMI 2.0. The desktop obviously understands it, although not reporting full resolution and and sticking at 60Hz. my monitor is only 30Hz at 4K. It's the text based boot screen that can't handle it. My (almost vintage) Orange Plus sees it correctly when running on Armbian, as does a 6 month old version on the NanoPi, so someone knows how this works. Thank you @piter75 So a 'lost setting' or 'feature' for development or porting from another build Mr Igor and friends please?

@piter75 Hi, yes it boots this way. lots of test as things starting up, error country setting failed -2, but more drivers started OK, then it pauses with error: drm:drm_scdc_set_scrambling failed to read tmds config, error 6 and 2 similar errors. Logged in on terminal as normal startup. Desktop appears! Subsequent reboot fails until HMDMI unplugged, then it boots to desktop. I have a new 4K monitor with HDMI V2.0. That is something that has changed on my setup Can you spill the beans????

PS My somewhat older Orange Pi Plus works fine on the latest firmware!

V2 firmware also doesn't work (despite only difference being RAM type DDR3 to DDR4). I'm not sure its getting a far as to start a UART. It's dead Jim!

Hi all, This has confused me! I have an old copy Armbian_20.02.7_Nanopim4_buster_current_5.4.28_desktop.7z which works fine. Any SD cards I put it on using Balena Etcher works. Any of the latest versions simply won't boot. The only difference appears to be the XZ file format. I extracted one of the later ones using 7Zip and then Etcher to flash and as expected it mad no difference at all. Has something been done to the V1 firmware from the V2 that doesn't work or firmwares containing the wrong naming etc? Help!

Ditto. Friendly seem to have permanently broken the video acceleration even though Chromium reports it as there. They have also added lots of junk. Armbian with this script is my preference.

I think that is the idea, but I don't have that hat. Armbian usually transfers very well. I have the SATA Hat. I'm running Friendly OS right now which doesn't transfer 100% and I'm booting from EMMC and using SSD for data e.g. Thunderbird. The boot time from EMMC vs SSD SATA is negligible and running apps seems the same.

RE:Accelerated graphics not working. I've found that updating Friendly OS using the Linux tools loses both the setting and the acceleration. Simply putting the setting back on doesn't fix it. If you stick to the Friendly releases, it's fine. Apart from when they mangle a release and have to fix it in a hurry when the Beta testers (us) complain.

Not sure exactly what tearing you are asking about? Does it show black and white bars moving across the screen, yes. Are the bars all vertical without sections moving independently, yes. Is it like a piece of paper in front of you, no. The edges have a couple pixels blur. Is it the same on my i7 laptop and external graphics card, don't know yet :-) Sorry for the subjective answer!

I switched away from armbian as it only supported graphics acceleration in certain packages. Friendly OS is tweaked and chromium for example is supported. I never tried open gl though and someone more knowledgeable than me will know for sure exactly what armbian supports today.

Hi Axel, watching this thread. Armbian has been pretty bulletproof on all SBCs I've tried. Interested to see how this turns out.

No issues with SATA hat on Armbian. Boot still uses the SD to get going, then everything else runs from a drive on SATA. Install to SD or EMMC and then use the Armbian utility to install to SATA. I'm using Friendly OS currently as it supports hardware video acceleration in Chrome, where Armbian does not. The Bluetooth and analogue sound are also less hassle. BUT, it does not move to SATA - or I have not found out how. The power button works in both OS. This will be handy if you want a "power failure organised shutdown". 3 pin CPU power management devices exist to do this. I have on Class D amps to stop power down thumps. The shutdown speed of this board is probably less than 1/2 sec, so probably do-able. e.g. MCP121 plus a few resistors. Poor laptop snuggled in it's bag the last few weeks as the M4 is doing everything I want right now. :-)

I am playing with a Dayton calibrated mic. Hence wanting mic input on the M4 to compare with it plugged into 'phone i.e via trrs jack. The calibrated mic plugged into my Wileyfox swift plus on Android seems to be reasonably truthful. The works iPhone gets all confused with bass and shows response when there is nothing there. I'd like to have it working on the M4, but the system does not see the jack input. I think it's configured for the second mic (solder pads) input ?

PS Like to use the mic for spectrum analysis. I have two tweaked TAS5630 class D amps, one in PBTL and several watts into a 90L sub, plus BTL and also several into my 2 way 10" mids and somewhat ample horn tweeters. 48V DC 20A supply.... Mic through the 'phone says flat down to 20Hz. I have a subsonic filter below that. So sound from this board all OK to my ears! PPS The speakers happily take the TPA3116 amps into clipping on 24VDC. A bit more headroom with 48. Live music in my shed :-)

Hi all. sata hat also on way. Regarding the two microphone inputs: how is the trrs jack connection enabled? I think the default is the solder pad connection. I've looked in alsa mixer and that has various inputs for the codec but nothing appearing in sound. I'm using friendly OS right now, but I guess it is the same or very similar like the audio output in most versions of Linux.

2A is causing volt drop from the psu. It'll likely still be 5.1v at the source end. Back in the day, Texas PLCs had a 5V psu. This had a remote sense which had to be connected to the CPU card. I don't recall the exact processor, but it was 5v logic levels and quite power hungry. Thin power cables caused all sorts of problems, even with the remote sense due to fast transient under voltage. 10w is dissipation is notably a lot for this smallish passive heatsink.

Regarding hard discs. Getting 300 mbs on Samsung 840 ssd via single usb 3 adaptor. Emmc is about twice as fast as a class A2 SD which is about 40mbs / 80 emmc. I'll get exact numbers as these are from memory! Boot from ssd is noticeably quicker than both, despite some info coming from the emmc initially. Boot time from seeing the first cursor to a compete desktop is about 2 or 3 seconds. I hope integration from web browsers to the gpu might happen, as that is the only thing stopping this sbc being a real desktop alternative.
