  1. Ok for now i put this endeavour on hold because i could not find a proper USB Raid Enclosure that also features "Online Raid-Level Migration" so that i could start out with 1 HDD and expand gradually until i got 4xHDD in RAID 5 without having to clear or move data, everytime i want to attach another HDD. And having to buy 4 NAS HDDs at once kind of defeats the purpose of a "budget NAS", so if anyone knows a USB RAID enclosure where i can expand and migrate the raid-level on the fly please let me know since i allready got OMV running on my ATV box now...
  2. Thanks a lot for the pointer SteeMan, "sudo /root/install-aml.sh" did the trick and i now got an open media vault up and running. 1000*Thanks!
  3. Hey im running Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_buster_current_5.9.0.img on an X96 Max (S905x2) and it works fine from sd-card but since this build is command line only, im not sure how to copy it to eMMc, so far all my attempts ended in me reinstalling armbian alltogether. (i used to run a desktop build and copying to eMMc was easy by mouseclick but now i need buster to run open media vault and i need to do it via command line) If anyone can point me to what fille/script i need to run id be more than happy.
  4. Hey Everbody, as the title suggests, im considering adding an external HDD enclosure to my S905x2 box running armbian to use it as a budget NAS. I was considering using Openmedia Vault + 4 Bays Raid 5 via USB 3.0. Is there anything in principle that would speak against this? Another question i have: would i need to use an external enclosure with a built in raid controller or can i use any external enclosure and setup the raid via software control (in armbian)?? Also i am not sure if i should go for a cheaper non-brand or maybe something like a QNAP TR-004 that i could (re)use with a real qnap NAS at some point in the future. Anybody here who has experience with such a setup? Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.
  5. Thank you for clarifying, i came across that post while i was looking for troubleshoot though i didnt took from it to make a more specific distinction as to whether a build is regarded as "official" or "community", you helped me a lot with valuable information. Although my tv box wasnt expensive, it comes with a quadcore, 4gb ram, 32gb ssd, gigabit lan and usb 3.0 and is eating like 13watt, if possible i will use it to do some home server stuff. I think i will ditch the effort to access its gui via xrdp and look for other solutions, until then i will configure the neccessary stuff with an extra mouse and keyboard and then just place the box where i want to use it and hope i dont have to access its gui again for a while XP
  6. i understand that im not entitled to anyones sparetime and im happy about any help i can get but i dont understand why those armbian builds are supposed to be "from the internet", apparently the forum.armbian.com user balbe has a set of rather popular and lively discussed build that he shares in this forum, i dont know what qualifies something to be regarded as "our work" in these forums. Idk if @balbes150 does still share his insights into his work.
  7. why would the answer be no https://yadi.sk/d/_rQgn_FosYuW0g/20.10/20201014
  8. downloaded it directly from balbes files, so i hope so
  9. i tried to apply this fix to my s905x2 box running the Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img.xz build but with no success... in another forum somebody wrote the following concerning this fix: " also doing a chmod after you've changed the file is what some users might be forgetting." but im not sure what the means and how to do it
  10. since im using the focal build now, i wonder if any of the other builds will behave more like a regular ubuntudesktop, im having a hard time opening things like geany and nautilus with gui AND as admin but when i try to fit it by instructions the build im using seems to behave quite differently. i dont know how to explain it better in english im sorry. or in other words: is there something about the display server and desktop environment works in the focal build that a newbe like me should know about and that could help me understand the problems i encounter with trying to do basic stuff? @balbes150
  11. i had to manually install armbian-config to run it, ran the script as well (v 1.2.1) with no luck... still blank desktop after rdp login :/
  12. One more question: I now copied the system onto the emmc, after copying, is there anything else that has to be done to make it fully functional? From the forum i found contradicting info that might also be outdated. And a bonus question that might not belong here but maybe you can give me an idea anyway: i installed xrdp to be able to access the box via remote desktop but when i connect the box desktop remains blank (it used to work with the old armbian ubuntu build i was using), now i read somewhere that the xrdp installation needs to be compiled in a way to fit the kernel. I have only general understanding of what that means and i have no idea what i can do about it. Is there anything that i can do about it?
  13. @SteeMan Thanks for your quick response! In the past i had a armbian ubuntu running wich was at some point no longer maintained. I then made an attempt to replace it with a newer armbian image but i didnt succeed and put my efforts on hold until now, because now i have a more pressing reason to have an armbian box to run things on. From reading through your comments and balbes original instruction i understand that its recommended to start from the X96 Max stock image thus i installed "X96 MAX 20181219.img" via amlogic usb burn tool , i found the image via googling for "x96 max stock firmware" but the site i downloaded it from wasnt the official manufacturers support site or something. I understand that @balbes150 builds do not support S905x2 (thus X96 Max) from any release newer that 14. Okt. 2020 (thus i tested 2 images: Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img.xz and Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0_desktop.img.xz wich is dated as released on 14. Okt. ) After writing the image on a microsd via USBImager.exe i did the following modifications: 1. rename "u-boot-s905x2-s922" into "u-boot-s905x2-s922.ext" 2. go to extlinux/extlinux.conf and remove the "#" from "#FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-g12a-x96-max.dtb" and the "#APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=ttyAML0,115200n8 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0" [edit] sorry i missed to add # in front of the unwanted dbt line but it still doesnt work extlinux.conf now looks like this: LABEL Armbian LINUX /zImage INITRD /uInitrd # rk-3399 #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3399-rock-pi-4.dtb #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3399-nanopc-t4.dtb #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3399-roc-pc-mezzanine.dtb #APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=uart8250,mmio32,0xff1a0000 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 # rk-3328 #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3328-roc-pc.dtb #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3328-box-trn9.dtb #FDT /dtb/rockchip/rk3328-box.dtb #APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=uart8250,mmio32,0xff130000 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 # aw h6 #FDT /dtb/allwinner/sun50i-h6-tanix-tx6.dtb #APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 video=HDMI-A-1:e #APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 mem=2048M video=HDMI-A-1:e # aml s9xxx #FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-p200.dtb #FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb #FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxm-q200.dtb FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-g12a-x96-max.dtb #FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-g12b-odroid-n2.dtb APPEND root=LABEL=ROOTFS rootflags=data=writeback rw console=ttyAML0,115200n8 console=tty0 no_console_suspend consoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 unfortunately it still doesnt work either via android updater or toothpick. Am i missing something or do i maybe need another x96 max stock firmware to start off with? OK I FOUND THE ERROR (sorry for stealing your time i have adhd and a gazillion tabs open wich caused me missing something) Instead of renaming "u-boot-s905x2-s922" into "u-boot.ext" i renamed it into "u-boot-s905x2-s922.ext" not i renamed it into "u-boot.ext" and its installing armbian ubuntu!
  14. Hi im trying to install Armbian on my X96 Max 4g/32g the old threads are all locked so i start this threat to try to get answers. Here user @pcconsult gave the following instructions: now at step 3 "3. Boot on X96 MAX. Insert prepared with image USB drive or memory card. From Android select UPDATE... from applications. Select file From your /Boot/...zip on the bottom. Then press Update." there doesnt seem to be any zip files on the burned image on my sd card that i could choose from when im trying to install the image via the android update menu? (this is the image that im trying to use: Armbian_20.11_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.10.0-rc4_desktop.img.xz ) Any suggestions on what im doing wrong or if there are any updated instructions or files that explain the best way to get armbian on a x96 max these days? Update: i have now tried this image " Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0_desktop.img.xz " it comes with an "aml_autoscript.zip", however if i try to select it either via the toothpick method or the android update app, it just simply boots back into the x96 default android :/ Also there is not uEnv.txt to be found on the image, is that still relevant?
  15. i got things mixed up sorry, i was refering to an image that i used wich i got from freaktab.com ( Armbian_5.98_Aml-g12_Ubuntu_bionic_dev_5.4.0-rc4_desktop_20191025.img.xz ) apparently its not longer supported anymore (e.g. i cant apt-get update anymore)... are there any alternative images that i could try that are still supported?
  16. apparently the ubuntu distribution this is based on is no longer maintained?
  17. could there be any substitute repositorys that i can fall back to?
  18. Hey everyone, im running armbian on a X96 MAX (S905X2) android tv box as a pihole server. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 19.04 Release: 19.04 Codename: disco unfortunately sudo apt-get update gives me this: (i did try to mess around with the repository settings in the meantime adding a ppa wich didnt help and potentially made it worse but i dont know how to revert the repository state back to its original state) Hit:1 http://ppa.launchpad.net/numix/ppa/ubuntu groovy InRelease Ign:2 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco InRelease Hit:4 http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu xenial InRelease Ign:5 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-security InRelease Ign:6 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-updates InRelease Ign:7 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-backports InRelease Ign:8 http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu focal InRelease Err:9 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco Release 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.150 80] Err:10 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-security Release 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.150 80] Err:11 http://ppa.launchpad.net/webupd8team/java/ubuntu focal Release 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.95.83 80] Err:12 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-updates Release 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.150 80] Err:13 http://ports.ubuntu.com disco-backports Release 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.150 80] Hit:3 https://apt.armbian.com disco InRelease Reading package lists... Is it a problem that im having the XT MOD custom atv from freaktab installed? Do i need to revert the x96 max back to its stock image to install the debian image via the android tv update app ?
