I think you have the same problem as me, let's wait for someone who can help us. The alternative is to put the latest 6.1 kernel back and try to see if the temperatures return to normal. If we solve this, we need to block kernel updates with the armbian config tool. I await suggestions. any help is appreciated
-
After upgrading from the official version with kernel 6.1 to the CSC version with kernel 6.6 I noticed an increase in CPU temperature of as much as 10 degrees. Is this normal? Honestly, seeing 52 degrees at idle worries me a bit

Hi thanks @Jakub Adamik for your message. I confirm that the current X96Q with pcb release 1.3 does not have working ethernet with the miniarch image. I wrote two emails to Piotr aka warpme but I haven't received a response yet, surely in this period he will be very busy with work and I won't be able to dedicate time to the miniarch project. I await a response from him.

We are talking about H313 and an eMMC in my case 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, I was unable to detach the heatsink and I avoid insisting so as not to damage the soc.

I would like to know if anyone has had the opportunity to try the new Tanix TX1. The dimensions are really small, only 58mm x 58mm x 25mm and it only has 1 USB port in addition to the HDMI port and the classic power jack. I know there are no Armbian images for H313 soc yet, too bad. This small TV box could be interesting for creating small servers connected exclusively via WiFi. Button 1 is the flash button, while button 2 is used to enter recovery mode. I tried images for H313 miniarch and others for H616 but I can't boot in any way. I'm using a USB stick obviously without using a USB hub but only the USB stick and for now only Android starts.

Create Compatible Firmware Images with Amlogic USB Burning Tool
Khadas replied to Khadas's topic in Amlogic CPU Boxes
I understand that those who manage to publish the images use some command line script once they gain access to the emmc. but I don't have the time to go into more depth and continue with the study -
Create Compatible Firmware Images with Amlogic USB Burning Tool
Khadas replied to Khadas's topic in Amlogic CPU Boxes
@dreamlayers thanks for your reply but the image I wanted to create was for restoring the bricked tv box. that's why I was curious to know if it was possible to create an image compatible with Amlogic USB Burning tool. I already have backups made with ddbr but in the case of a bricked TV box those images are not good. I should have solved it because I found the image I was looking for of the fake tx3 mini with soc S905L2-B -
@SteeMan I completely agree with you, by chance I discovered this forum dedicated to TV boxes and I wanted to have some fun with these cheap low quality TV boxes. Now I understand well why Armbian does not officially support TV boxes and I wanted to share my recent discoveries with that interesting forum.
-
The most absurd thing is that it says S905W on it and it's actually an RK3229. I think they have the same RK3229 1GB/8GB PCB that they wanted to pass off as S905W and now they try to make the fake X96Q with that PCB too
-
I was looking for a low-cost S905W tv box. I discovered this counterfeitby accident because I couldn't boot any armbian image for S905W soc and I accidentally tried the multitool and it started right away 1GB/8GB version and not 2GB/16GB. So be very careful what you buy and if possible send it back to these dishonest Chinese sellers!
-
ATTENTION there is a counterfeit version of the X96Q TV box. Before sending it back I took a photo of the PCB. We are talking about SOC RK3229 and eMCP 1GB RAM/8GB ROM. By chance I wanted to try booting with the multitool and I understood the deception. the only linux release working on X96Q is the Miniarch project but let's go off topic
-
@jock thank you very much for your reply, I sent the TV box back because I looked for the pads but couldn't find them and I decided that I was no longer interested in the H20 armbian project. I wanted to write the post just to warn those like me who are happy to see the multitool loaded correctly and want to try the installation on eMMC. In my opinion the card is really of poor quality, all the HDMI VGA adapters in my possession with this card do not work, I was only able to see the screen working with HDMI monitors and this made me decide to send the bricked TV box back.
-
@uppi No, about 1.94 GB RAM and 14.19GB ROM which is correct for the 2GB/16GB version be careful because many dishonest sellers sell 1G/8G cards labeled 2GB/16GB as well as putting other pcbs and printing on the socs what they want to increase the their profits but that's another story.

How to backup armbian from emmc as a backup image
Khadas replied to Juan Rangel's topic in Amlogic CPU Boxes
@Juan Rangel https://forum.armbian.com/topic/15027-backup-of-emmc-preferred-method/ I confirm the command is ddbr, I was using a custom script. the limitation is that the backup file you create can only be restored with a TV box that boots from an SD card with an Armbian image. you cannot use it in the case of bricking a TV box with the Amlogic USB Burning tool because it is NOT a valid image for that specific tool -
@Victorhtf https://forum.armbian.com/topic/33722-tx3-mini-s905l2-b-firmware-request/ in this other post where I was asking for the firmware they sent me the link to the factory android firmware relating to our fake tx3 mini
-
@uppi thanks so much for the link. I'll put the firmware in my archive and keep my fingers crossed if I need to use it if the TV box is bricked. as I already wrote in another post to be able to boot Armbian correctly you must use the dtb meson-gxl-s905l2-ipbs9505 and the u-boot u-boot-s905x-s912 bin is fine. if you don't find that dtb in the official armbian release in the dtb directory you have to do a search online and add it to the dtb directory together with the others. I did so. @SteeMan is it possible to add the dtb for the s905l2 socs in the current armbian release for s905? I mean meson-gxl-s905l2-x7-5g.dtb and meson-gxl-s905l2-ipbs9505 dtb
-
@Victorhtf if you have specific questions about installing on eMMC send me a private message because we're talking about an unofficial Armbian fork and we'll go off topic. I can only tell you that you choose option 119 Wojia-TV-IPBS9505(s905l2) in the script to install on eMMC.You can also start from an armbian image on micro sd and put the dtb meson-gxl-s905l2-ipbs9505 dtb, u-boot is fine uboot u-boot-s905x-s912 bin I noticed that ethernet doesn't work but wifi does because it is present the RTL8189ES driver in the armbian image. If I find the time to make further attempts with the armbian image I'll keep you updated. Unfortunately in case of bricking of the TV box I don't think anyone will be able to help you because we are talking about a fake Tanix TX3 mini clone.
-
Does anyone know if the H20 soc RK3228A TV box is compatible with installing the multitool on eMMC? I don't think so, on the PCB the model is H20_221_V1.71_230617. I couldn't find any pads on the pcb to try to force access to the mask rom. On the forum I seem to have read about others who have had the problem of bricking this TV box, I think it is still not supported by the multitool.
-
I didn't understand if the current official Armbian for S905 soc supports eMMC flashing, I read somewhere that it's not supported yet but I'm not sure.
-
To warn you that I tried again to install on emmc from the fork image with kernel 5.15.145 I chose "119 Wojia-TV-IPBS9505" from the list because it is the tx box most similar to our fake tx3 mini that dtb with access to eMMC and this time the installation on eMMC went smoothly. Soon I will try the official Armbian release on a micro SD card and decide whether to flash the official Armbian release on eMMC.
-
Good luck with your installation on emmc, I hope you have taken into consideration the risk of bricking the TV box without a firmware compatible with the amlogic usb burning tool. The backup made with armbian ddbr cannot be used with the amlogic USB burning tool. The image file is not compatible. If you manage to make the TV box work from emmc let me know which SD image you started from and all the steps, thanks
-
I don't understand why I can also boot by pressing the reset hole while turning it on but only from USB with a USB micro SD adapter, basically the micro SD with which I can't boot if inserted in its slot on a USB adapter I can do the boot, I hope I was clearer. I'll try with a different micro SD.

Create Compatible Firmware Images with Amlogic USB Burning Tool
Khadas replied to Khadas's topic in Amlogic CPU Boxes
I understand that there are scripts that allow the repacking and modification of images and therefore firmware compatible with the Amlogic USB Burning tool. An example is Linux AMLogic Toolkit. What I don't understand is whether it was possible to somehow extract the Android image from the eMMC and make it compatible with the Amlogic USB Burning tool. With all these TV BOXES that are constantly changing it is very difficult to find compatible firmware for recovery in the event of bricking. There are sites like China Gadget Review that share firmware from the TV boxes they test, I think they extract them but I don't understand how they do it. Any help is welcome. -
I think I have understood the problem that led to the bricking of my fake TX3 mini S905L2-B tx box. From the UNofficial armbian fork image I had successfully flashed but it didn't load the kernel only error msg on boot but still boot with SD image. The mistake was that I booted from the official Armbian SD with the right u-boot and dtb and tried to flash the eMMC again. I had to bring the box back to the factory Android conditions on the eMMC before use the armbian script for emmc installation. Unfortunately, I hadn't read that the script that flashes the eMMC only works correctly if the Android image is on the eMMC, so be careful. One thing I didn't understand is whether it is officially possible to install Armbian on eMMC on amlogic s905 tx boxes because on the help post here on the forum it says that installation on eMMC is NOT supported
-
I purchased this fake clone TV box of the classic Tanix TX3 Mini 2GB Ram 16GB Rom for around 20 dollars (including shipping). I discovered that the soc is S905L2-B and before bricking the card with attempts to install it on eMMC I wanted to know if anyone of you found a firmware for this TV box compatible with the Amlogic USB Burning tool. On the internet I only found two tx boxes that mount the S905L2 soc and they are the X7 5G and ipbs9505 and I couldn't find firmware to try to load them on my tv box, it's difficult on the Chinese forums for me to be able to find the downloads. Any advice is welcome because with boot from the SD and the armbian-ddbr command I get an image but which I can only restore with the same command after booting from the SD so if the TV box is bricked and I can't boot this path won't work. I can use it to restore the Android factory image
