1. Now i have display compositing enabled with compton, using xfce default compositing makes text and some other stuff look foggy, i don't know if i did use the right word, but hope you understand me. But all the other stuff is more or less the same, glmark2 shows very low score, desktop feels accelerated and it runs very well. I could live with that, but when i play video, it doesn't run well, the same thing is probably with games. Good thing with chromium that it now works without using terminal command, but you can see that it needs more time to open the ui. Is there any tweak or some app, that could make desktop to run without any glitches, but it doesn't affect playing videos or other stuff that is needed for the system? Can someone explain, is this because the gpu is too slow, or is it just because lima is not mature enough, and things will probably get better, or is it maybe this way with xfce, you win some but you lose some?
2. I didn't check video info, but i believe it is accelerated, i didn't see anything weird when playing it, but all this was just a short test. What crashes do you have on Ubuntu? Tbh i feel like Debian buster works better than Ubuntu, but i can't seem to enable lima driver on it.
3. Kodi gui was accelerated in all these images i've tried recently, but i didn't check the videos, this was the first time i wanted to try it, i was happy with mpv so far. I would like to discover what other configuration i need to change with lima, because i feel i am missing something. I was checking manjaro xfce last week, and it worked better than these armbian images, mpv and kodi both worked, didn't have app window drawing over the screen when moving, but i don't have wifi driver so i gave up for now.
4. I now have a strange issue, i am not sure if it's connected to lima or not, but i believe it probably is lima. Text is missing from Kodi 18.6 ui menu, i can only see icons, nothing else, i've tried to reinstall it, but nothing has changed. I am running Ubuntu focal kernel 5.7 rc6.
5. Does anyone else have issues when booting from usb flash drive, everything is ok when booting from sd, but when trying with usb, it boots as server and with some dependencies failed, and when it boots i get no desktop? Device is kvim1, image is ubuntu focal desktop, kernel 5.7 rc4. Is there anything special that needs to be done when using usb, maybe i missed something?
6. Does anyone else have issues with booting from usb flash drive, everything is ok when booting from sd, but when trying with usb, it boots as server, but with start dependencies failed, and no desktop. Device is kvim1, image is ubuntu focal desktop, kernel 5.7 rc4.
7. I have changed display manager from ldm to lxdm, i think gdm was installed too, now i have options on login screen. I did install gnome core, wayland and weston, and i have gnome on xorg(x2 probably because mutter is preinstalled when installing gnome core?) and gnome classic to choose. Gnome on xorg is slow, gnome classic is decent. I have installed sway, but i don't know how to run it, i didn't get any option about it. About wayfire, judging by the pictures, it really looks beautiful, it looks highly customizable and attractive, but i have some install.sh script error, judging by github, i am not the only one with it. There is some patch that should work, but i don't know how to apply it. I would build it myself if i knew how, sometimes i really need detailed instructions from start to end, without skipping any step, and i can't find them every time, i am using windows my whole life, sometimes Linux is just hard. I am using Ubuntu instead of Debian.
8. Now i'm interested to see your configuration, part where you get these big glmark2 numbers, what packages are needed, can you share installation steps? If display compositing is enabled with lima, i get pretty low glmark2 score, but the overall system feels a little smoother, not faster but with less glitches. I broke my system a lot of times in the past, when i tried to make bigger changes in armbian, so step by step instruction would be appreciated.
9. One more thing, is it possible for app window not to draw over desktop when moving it, can i do something about it without disabling lima driver? Nevermind, i figured it out, display compositing was disabled, now it's quite smooth, this is now a really nice lightweight desktop.
10. Yeah, on Bionic all should run well, i also switched back to Bionic, Focal still has some bugs that annoy me. Chromium on Lima doesn't work, but lima dev helped me with solution, add this line on chromium command line --use-gl=egl., it's not a real solution, but at least you can run chromium.
11. I did try Debian buster 5.7 image last night, it looks like there is a big difference with these two distros, i must say it works better than Ubuntu, i can really feel that it is accelerated. When you move app windows, there is no app drawing over the desktop, desktop really feels smooth, don't know if i used the right words, i am not so good with english technical terms. Maybe i am missing something, or maybe there is something else that needs to be configured, but in those few minutes of testing, it's a big difference. @UniformBuffer, yeah, i was pretty sure that it will look the same, unfortunately that isn't the case. But thanks anyway for helping!
12. I needed to send it complete the first time, sorry. I've run glxinfo, same as glmark2, mali450 mesa.
13. I wasn't sure if the picture was sent, i don't see it, maybe i removed it accidentaly, so here it is, this is all done with tapatalk.
14. Hi, my file looks different, look at the picture. I have added oibaf ppa, installed mesa, set the 3d acceleration from none to glamor, that is all i have done, and that's the only conf file in the folder. Glmark2 says that i have 2.1 mesa 20.1.0-devel, gl renderer mali 450, gl vendor lima, so it looks like it is already using lima? That is one of the reasons i asked, first time i have set acceleration to glamor, glmark2 reported it was no longer using llvm pipe? I will check with glxinfo just in case, but i don't see a reason why it should report anything else.
15. @ning thank you, but you must be more precise, i don't know how to configure x for lima and remove all x config files preinstalled, i've been looking from the freedesktp site, but i can't find precise instructions, and i don't want to experiment because a lot of stuff is working fine on my system. About mesa, glmark2 says 2.1 mesa 20.1.0-devel, 29.04.2020 is the date on it, so probably this is up to date? Sorry, but i am a noob when it comes to Linux, so if you can help me out?
16. I'm using universal balbes150 images for aml rk aw, the latest 20.05.03 Ubuntu focal, kernel 5.7 rc2, i am always using a synaptic to install software, i prefer gui. Synaptic has a bug in Ubuntu focal for now, it won't start under start menu, i must use terminal and sudo synaptic to start.
17. Sorry, i just saw your post, but i am not the one you should need to ask, i believe a lot of your questions are answered in posts above. About lima, i have found answers under comments of this video https://youtu.be/nuZgdatQkqo, author of the video explained where you will find conf file, in that file i just changed acceleration from none to glamor. I can definitely tell you that Kodi 18 gui is accelerated, i didn't watch any video on it. Chromium has an issue when using lima, firefox works ok, i do have few strange issues with ubuntu 20.04, but maybe this is an OS issue, i don't even know is this the final release of Ubuntu focal arm? I won't suggest you things i haven't tried, so it's better to ask someone who knows better than me, but a lot of stuff was explained in recent posts.
18. Thank you all for your answers, judging by your answers it looks i have done everything right. I didn't use kvim1 Armbian for a long time, i've been using it with Android, i forgot how well Linux on s905/x is supported, and there always has to be an issue with arm boards:) ning, thank you for your clarification, i will do that, that is fantastic. One more question about Gnome (x is ok if wayland has issues) on it, do i need to perform any special steps or configuration when Mali is enabled, or is it just enough to install gnome desktop on current image (although you said it's probably better on Debian, i prefer Ubuntu)? As i remember before, i would get an option to pick between gdm and ldm, i must choose gdm if i want to use gnome? Is there anything else that i need to install if i want to run Gnome on kvim1? I am not so technically skilled with all these expressions, so sometimes you need to draw me something for me to be able to understand it:), i do know a lot about technology, but Linux is still a mystery to me.
19. Something strange happened, i don't have any sound now, and chromium browser starts with blank page, it looks like a white window, with no options or anything. I have reverted acceleration to none, chromium now starts, but sound is still not coming. I am using armbian 20.05.03., ubuntu 20.04, kernel 5.7 rc2. Was this video even the right way to install and run lima, or did i need to edit some other line except the one that adds acceleration?
20. Hi, i am using khadas vim1 pro, i've seen a video about lima driver on youtube, there is a reply about adding oibaf ppa for installation of lima driver, i added it, installed, but now i need to edit armbian-defaults.conf file. Does someone know how does it need to look like, if so i need help, first time i've edited it, after it i couldn't boot to desktop anymore, so i've probably done something wrong? Nevermind, i just set acceleration from none to glamor, did test glmark2 and got a 196 score.
21. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to have audio working on armbian focal kernel 5.7 rc1, 23.04. release, device is khadas vim 3? One more thing i've noticed, can't reboot, it starts reboot process, rebooting is written on the screen, and it stays like this without actually rebooting?
22. I can't boot this image, it shows khadas logo and reboots few seconds after, device is khadas vim3 2/16. I did change dtb, do i need to delete those lines starting with allwinner and rockchip in uenv.ini file? I did even try to change u-boot with the one for amlogic g12 you provided on yandex, same thing is happening, can you help? Btw i am using android pie on emmc, if that can help?
23. Hi, i do not understand how to boot latest image, do i need to delete all the options in uenv.ini and leave only amlogic lines with correct dtb, in my case khadas vim3 dtb? I did those steps, and the board only shows khadas logo and reboots after few seconds, nothing is wrong with the board, Android works normally. Is there maybe something specific with g12-b boarda that doesn't allow the board to boot armbian. I did a search, but don't really understand what am i doing wrong, as far as i understood, this u-boot fix is already included in the last image?
24. Can this script be modified to run and work on kernel 5.4? I wish i had enough knowledge to do this, if it's even possible, you did a great job with it.
