SSH & serial login is enabled by default. I don't think allowing blank password would be a good idea under such circumstance. Yes, its users call, but we have to prevent at least most stupid actions. One can always override this later in case he knows what he is doing. We even used to have password complexity check error, which was perhaps too hard and a while back was downgraded to a warning.

IMO there are enough of safety compromises.

Making it work on Ubuntu packages base represented months of work in exchange for virtually nothing. Rare people is able to understand that and most people are just used to consume without compensation, complaining and asking for more. If you / people would understand what they are asking for ...  it would already be a great step forward. No, this is not easy to make. Especially because everyone expects from developers to pay for everything. Join, do your part. But not with requests and demands. Project would hire several developers to make it better for you ...

As it is impossible to satisfy everyone in this aspect, we don't even try. Armbian provides clean base images with minimum set of applications. Additional applications can be installed classical APT way, via armbian-config or you start making your own images - build framework https://github.com/armbian/build is a masterpiece. You can do your own Armbian based image and adding your own applications in no time.

try setting the switches to 11 (UART) or 00 (Flash).
The boot mode selctor tells the board which bootloader should be used. armbian images don't contain the bootloader (u-boot) on the sd card so this setting won't work.

if you still run into issues try booting the sdcard.img provided by the manufacturer and update the bootloader per their description.

mitag reacted to Igor in Summer update. Bust.er4all boards
    v5.90 / 7.7.2019
All images were updated. It mainly goes for a bugfix update, cleanup, adding Debian Buster release. Beware that software maturity with Buster is not just there yet (even it was declared stable) and with some applications (like OMV) you will encounter problems. Kernel/BSP wise, Debian Buster is the same, uses Armbian kernel, as our other builds. Most of the builds were briefly tested, but bugs might be hiding somewhere. This is the best what is out there thanks to greater Debian community, those around boards and of course ours which pushes generic Debian/Linux to the sky . Enjoy the summer time.

mitag got a reaction from emk2203 in NanoPI M4
Me too, mine arrived yesterday, but the 48W switching power supply arrived today. Only the installation was a bit fiddly. I had copied Armbian_5.65_Nanopim4_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.162_desktop to an SD at the end of October and transferred it from there to an eMMC using armbian-config. In December I had packed a mSATA SSD into a USB3 case, connected it to the NanoPi and very conveniently, with armbian-config, integrated the USB SSD so that it boots from the eMMC.

So far so good, I was satisfied with this solution. When I then installed the SATA HAT, the NanoPi didn't want to boot from a current Armbian Ubuntu, nor from an Armbian Stretch, nor from an older version, as long as the eMMC was installed at the same time. Then I installed an SD version of Friendly Core Bionic and repartitioned the eMMC. Then I could boot normally with Armbian_5.75_Nanopim4_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.174 from SD and set up the eMMC first, reboot and without SD, set up the SATA SSD in a second pass. Fiddling with a SMD tweezer to insert or remove the eMMC under the SATA HAT was a bit annoying. But with the RockPi 4 it's even narrower under the cooler.
