  1. I replaced all of my orange pi zeros with them as camera servers - combined with esp32s to serve as remote monitors. The one shown in previous message is a spare one to use as tool chain builder, also can be used standalone.
  2. Here is what I did with one of mine - added $7.5 neo core as standalone terminal with back to back ethernet and serial connections :-)

  4. Nobody can give you the right answer, you should try a few and sell them back if too costly or just keep them. For a start, you should try a pi4b 4gb with fanless massive heat sink - very little work, everything can be bought. Try it for a few works and see how you like it. Sell it back with minimal lost.
  5. The following command works on waveshare ili9340 with no extra work if you connect the pins one-to-one: sudo modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9340 gpios=reset:166,dc:167 speed=32000000 txbuflen=32768 rotate=90 bgr=1 busnum=2 Note that if you use a bigger buffer size it may not work.
  6. What exactly is your flexfb command to do this? Could part of the command be done inside dts and would it be useful? Could you try the LCD on the other SPI to see if it works the same? What about getting 2 LCDs to work at the same time?
  7. VMs are a must, hosts should not be connected to IP networks for security but the VMs can. VMs can be generated on the fly using templates (file copies). It is far easier to blow away a file than a partition. The goal should be to run more VMs simultaneously, not rid of them.

  9. If you can live with hdmi being not working in the mean time, I would recommend OPI One Plus or Lite2. They are just faster H5's and they work with little heat sinks. I used them to compile the esp32 cross tool chain which took like two hours and they just worked. Before this I also had high hopes for k1 plus but it crashed like 20 minutes into the compilation - this was using the bigger stock heat sink without fan - my PCs are already making enough noise for me. Heat is the biggest problem for any serious computing using these boards. Note that CPU throttling worked amazingly well on these H6 boards, the temperature never got higher than 78C and the CPUs were throttling between 1.5/73 to 1.8/78. They are also cheaper, for the lack of USB's, I use a $2 hub, SPI lcd works in 4.20, but not 5.1.
  10. I ended up doing the simple thing recommended by most - seems to keep temperature constant in the 60's with the fan on - but the fan may fail one day: fan powered by usb as I really dislike the noise - I leave it unplugged unless there is smoke :-)

  14. Alternatively, you could use a usb to ethernet connector, this would give you network (my user build next works just fine and boots - I just did it today).
  15. That's right analog sound seems available (as shown by /proc/asound/cards) when using a pine64 5.70 next image with nanopi a64 but no sound ever comes out of the connection, wifi does work.

  20. Here are some of my SBCs that are under $20 (see photo below). I have divided them into two categories, with hdmi and not. The ones on the left are without, and on the right are with. The ones without are mostly orangepi's and nanopi's. Just do a search on their web sites and if it is under $20, I have it. One thing to consider is the ones with two spi channels (e.g. nanopi core 1 - note core 2 is better but its over $20), this would allow connecting two spi screens. If you connect two relatively big 3.2 ili9341 screens, with the browser stretched across them, your experience would still suffer but it would be okay in some extreme situations. The ones with hdmi include, raspberrypi zero w (double spi), nanopi A64 (double spi), pcduino4 nano (double spi), nanopi m1 - same as pcduino4 nano (double spi), and the other three orangepi's. Bananapi zero is slightly over $20, I have it connected to a lap dock. Of these, the best is pcduino4 nano (get it on ebay between $5 to $16), supported well in software (armbian), and nanopi a64 ($19.99?) is my second choice, software support is getting there (may be?), at least double spi works with pine64 image (latest kernel). Raspberrypi Zero W is only $5 from my local store, and dual spi screen with camera works, you really can't beat it in price.

    CSC supported is just as great as any other boards. The only thing I could not get working is hdmi sound, wifi works fine, both spi channels work fine - but not as well as other boards (more 110 errors), perhaps hardware related? I use it as a laptop with my lap dock, and a bluetooth dongle for sound.
  22. You could easily do that with any SBC discussed in this forum, e.g. k1plus dual screen + bluetooth keyboard, or a zero plus 2 h5, 5 inch hdmi + bluetooh keyboard, or a pi zero with double 18650 batteries and a 2.4" screen
