Is it possible to change the HHD drive to an SSD drive?

I am using my personal laptop for my work, but recently, they have degraded a lot. In the past I bought a computer with an HHD drive, because the price was cheaper. Now I need to upgrade to an SSD computer, because the laptop is running very slow. So is it possible to change the HHD drive to an SSD? If so, how many GB SSD is reasonable?
