works ok for my alternate 2G4 network.

Scanning wifi does not show any 5G8 networks.

From dmesg:

I did some fruitless experiments:

  • apt install firmware-brcm80211
  • now we have file brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.sinovoip,bpi-m2-plus.bin (and others)
  • but results in ieee80211 phy0: brcmf_fw_crashed: Firmware has halted or crashed
  • to fix had to run apt-get reinstall armbian-firmware

At least reverted successfully to previous semi-working state (2G4 connection working).

Solution to get proper wifi 5G networking still missing

armbian-firmware-full has some additional files for brcmfmac43430* but not the afore mentioned brcmfmac43430-sdio.sinovoip,bpi-m2-plus.bin from the error message. Not sure if there was anything else in armbian-firmware-full to make a difference?

since I had keyboard and monitor attached I could now try changing ccode setting from ALL to X2 as described in the linked thread. Unfortunately no impact whatsoever in my case - always limited to 2G4 channels 1-13.

I am ready to give up here and continue using 2G4 for this device; it is my last 2G4 client and just one more nuisance
