(suggestion) Webmin - easy Armbian manager

Hi,

I would suggest that in Armbian use Webmin as default.
- easy interface
- very easy to check the status of Armbiana
- easy to install basic services, eg. Ftp, samba

There are many questions on the forum related to the different installations, using this program is much easier.

How to install (Orange Pi PC ):  (Webmin updates itself to the latest version - notification appears)
 sudo apt-get install -y perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl apt-show-versions python
 sudo wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.831_all.deb
 sudo dpkg --install webmin_1.831_all.deb

 access:  (ignore https warning)

 https://your Armbian ip:10000/

to add something eg. samba - see unused modules

This method also includes updating when a new version is released via apt-update / upgrade. The method above does not.

As I wrote at the beginning (please read), the suggestion applies to attach webmin to Armbian

How to install I leave to developers of Armbian

i really dont want any of that as default upon a new install.. less is more its better to have as optional rather then mandatory.

I agree. It is a rather big package.

But thanks to mariuszb for his message I followed his method from an SSH console it works very well.

Update to version 1.831 from the webmin interface worked too.

+1, what I'd do:

1 - Add the official webmin repository to images, but default to disabled...

2 - Add a build script that checks the validity of that repo...

3 - Document the (now easy) way of installing webmin on armbian...

why move into the distro its easily installed outside of the repo as is..

here is the reason i use armbian cause its lightweight non BS fluff, just pure console, stable and fast. If we start adding webui that requires a lot of dependencies its not gonna be lightweight its just gonna be another bloated distro.

rather do my management in console then thru a webui.

+1 on leaving this outside the distro all together.

+1 let the users that really want this to install it on their own.

hell im not forcing users have LMS into the distro so please dont force me to use software i dont want, let em install it on their own via adding repos.

plus the dev team is small enough so just keeping up with releases etc for webmin is bad enough rather let em focus on providing a solid kernel for the devices then looking at what software has been released this week.
