I'm running Armbian on my ARM-based single-board computer, and I would like to create a bootable live image from my current installation. This way, I can use the image to boot other devices with the same configuration, software, and customizations that I've set up on my current system.

I've looked through the Armbian documentation, but I couldn't find a straightforward guide on how to accomplish this task. Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable live image from my current Armbian installation?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to create an image file (e.g., .img or .iso) that I can write to a USB drive or an SD card, making it bootable on other ARM devices compatible with Armbian.

Please let me know if you need any additional details about my current setup or if there are any specific tools or utilities I should be aware of for this process.

Thank you in advance for your help!

This is not possible in an automated way. You can use the customization script mentioned here to adjust the image to your needs.

I understand your concern about not wanting to compile the entire repository. Building an operating system from source can be a time-consuming and resource-intensive process. Let me rephrase my request:

I don't want to go through the process of compiling the Armbian repository and building the image from source. Is there an easier way to create a bootable live image directly from my current Armbian installation without having to rebuild everything from scratch? Perhaps there's a tool or script that can capture the current state of my system and package it into a bootable image file that I can write to a USB drive or SD card?

I'm hoping for a more straightforward solution that doesn't require me to delve into the intricacies of the Armbian build process. If such a method exists, it would save me a significant amount of time and effort. Please let me know if you're aware of any alternative approaches that could achieve my goal more efficiently.

Yes. :)

https://github.com/UnconnectedBedna/shrink-backup

- Make a working install

- Make an img with shrink-backup
- "burn" that img and use on another device

Note that the UUID:s will ofc be the same on both systems.
