Christopher Johnson Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I am attempting to boot my BPI-M2U. It will start the boot, but it does not get to the login prompt. Instead, it resets and starts the boot process over. I am using a 3A Power Supply rated for Pi's. I've tested with other power supplies. One of the BPI images does boot and run. The SD card is untested but works for the other OS. In case it was the SD card, I flashed the Armbian image to the eMMC and attempted to boot off that. I am using the Armbian_23.05.0-trunk_Bananapim2ultra_bookworm_current_6.1.24 image. While the exact spot it dies might change by a few lines, the following is about where it gets. I can build Armbian images from the git repo so any suggestions are welcome. This is an old core and Armbian does not support it. If for some reason you need version 6.1, then try to build with the BRANCH="legacy" parameter. But I warn you that version 6.1 will be deleted after a while. Recommendations: Assemble the image using BRANCH="edge". Today it is the 6.12 kernel and it will become the current one soon. I modified the ftdfile to remove the serial@1c28c00. This changed the behavior, worsening it. I attempted to make an overlay to remove the serial port. That failed. I modified the ftdfile to remove the Bluetooth portion of the dtb. The results follow. I did read the examples on how to make an overlay. I need to spend more time figuring out overlays. Will sometimes reset, sometimes it will power off. But it does boot. I am looking at the Armbian OS because you do have support for PPS in the kernel builds. @going I will be trying with a BPI-M2 Pro S905X3 on Tuesday. That has full support from Armbian. The behavior is exactly the same as that of your board. I found the reason quickly. These were oxidized/weakened contacts on the power supply. When the board starts, the consumption is low. But then all the regulators are turned on, and when the OS starts setting up, consumption increases dramatically. In that place of bad contact, a voltage drop occurs and the board turns off. Soldering iron + screwdriver solved the problem. My power supply is open and I have access to it. 0 Quote
