  1. @nokirunner you very welcome and glad to help you and happy the board is back to life Yes, I am italian and translate of "from stables to stars" is Dalle stalle alle stelle , just a missing D and ty for this italian quote This is one of the worst nightmare in bringing to linux those tvboxes , sooo many combinations bootloader ddr and real processor (3228a 3228b 3229). Proprietary things work well, mainline adapted things work well the same, mixting thing up to today is a very talented skill, but luckly we have now a growing statistic of working boards
  2. @nokirunner Since this is the very first board on which me and @jock worked , we know it veeeeeeryyy well you will unbrick, you bricked because you flashed a idbloader for ddr3 and this board has ddr2, that is all PLEASE do not MIX methods unless you know what you doing... hte booting methods AREN'T compatible . IF you use jock's use jock's if you use hexdump use hexdump ;-)
  3. I posted here since this is more a generic question related to initrd than specific to board My scenario is this: I modified my ARMBIAN uInitrd ( unpacked and repacked ) and added a driver I needed , in particular driver for recognizing internal nand. Of course in the init script I added insmod aml_nftl_dev.ko The process was successfull and infact now i can see the internal nand lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT mmcblk0 179:0 0 980M 0 disk |-mmcblk0p1 179:1 0 128M 0 part /boot `-mmcblk0p2 179:2 0 848M 0 part / cache 250:0 0 512M 0 disk logo 250:1 0 32M 0 disk recovery 250:2 0 32M 0 disk misc 250:3 0 32M 0 disk boot 250:4 0 32M 0 disk system 250:5 0 1G 0 disk data 250:6 0 5.4G 0 disk I can give for sure that the module is loaded by init because I HAVEN'T at all this module under /lib/modules, so for sure it is loaded by init lsmod Module Size Used by aml_nftl_dev 66089 0 Now comes the problem: when i try to install the whole thing in internal nand and let it boot by internal nand (install.sh) the process goes straight to the end. When I reboot thought the kernel hangs because is not found the correct /dev/root It is clear that the internal nand has not been recognized : [ 4.278488@1] VFS: Cannot open root device "data" or unknown-block(0,0): error -6 [ 4.285651@1] Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: I also double checked if really I transferred my modified uInitrd with right driver in the internal nand /dev/boot abootimg -i /dev/boot > aboot.txt abootimg -x /dev/boot and yes it is mine uInitrd My question is: why if I boot from SD it boots and recognizes internal nand partition and when I boot from internal nand with same uInitrd the partitions don't exist anymore ? Is there a way for letting init wait and be sure that aml_nftl_dev.ko is loaded, internal nand recognized and then go on? some sleep, some wait, some early-init? Thanks in adavence
  4. @balbes150 followed you in my first approach to run "linux" on an old amlogic 805 with only 512 ( 384... ) mega of ram and the following you in the project of "one armbian for different platforms" But this answer leaves me a bit puzzled. Nobody here is wasting time or wanting others waste time, but some form of explication of this arguments could be usefull
  5. @Maker39 try it should pull only the 3229 branch and then go to expert mode and tvboxes sub menu EDIT: regarding 8723 try to load ONLY the 8723cs be aware of cs and blacklist all other 8723. study still going on because at every reboot it changes mac address
  6. with @jock managed to have 8723 working Let's say 80% is done , just need some tuning and jock will release how to For my experience on those boards I can say: if you need videos stay on android or libreelec and kodi if you need a server or a decent desktop, office and pdf go on linux If one day it will be implemented WAYLAND x server on thos board , we will have definetly a good replacement for an entry desktop pc ( I am speaking of 3229 and ddr3 )
  7. mmm I don't believe all this will finish in just one week .. Tests on 8723 are going in right direction anyway
  8. @Maker39 I was understandig you knew how to compile kernels. OK no matters @MFaust please wait some time since we are more focused on hardware problems at the moment You can try "openvpn " that is surely working and if you open a new 3ad I will try to support you in configuring vpn ( server or client) so we leave this discussion for hardware related problems
  9. @Maker39 in the afternoon/late evening @jock and me will investigate the 8723 wifi problem. TY for reporting 8189 working @MFaust by your log it seems ppptd needs something in the kernel ( ppp filter) and infact it isn't compiled should compile a new kernel with this flag on or use openvpn that surely works @Maker39 again... can you compile a new kernel for MFaust with all ppp options set on , so me and jock keep concentrate on harware problems ? if then ppptd works we will keep it on future releases
  10. @MFaust Italy here ,some big trouble, indeed !!!! @Maker39 Ty so much for sharing your efforts
  11. Exactly the same here, playing around with all sort of electronic stuffs where are you located @MFaust ?
  12. @willerson Ciao Willerson , how are you. Long time not seen !! Yes @jock knows about you and about the original study done and the initial your " intuition" about trust os. I also informed him about your effort successfully to have rknand in uboot legacy Jock will answer you personally but at this moment the best approach is mix up librelec loader uboot and trustos ( they are the original rockchip thks to @knaerzche work) and kernel and root from armbian. Also in progress is a " generic" image booting quite everywhere and then changing the dtb achieve a better performance Cheers
  13. Sure you can fork the project, make new images, mix up libreelec bootloader with armbian kernel and rootfs to give people all the possibilities to boot their boards. For example I never saw the green board of your post, and believe me I have sooooo many different boards. Then share somewhere your work and comment with as many info's and photos you can
  14. @Maker39 Consider that Sardine is so powerful that I use it TO COMPILE the armbian itself. When I need new kernel or module I compile on board itself. Is a power horse and I like it the most. Yes is a pity for WiFi, but investigation on what the hell is not working still going on. It is a continue work in progress If we stopped when other people said Linux NEVER would run on 3229 , we ( Jock and I and some other clever mind from libreelec) wouldn't be here in this 3ad now . Stay tuned
  15. @MFaust You have a 3228 as you can see by efuse 23 82 is 32 28 in reverse order could you please post the output of full UART if you have , from beginning of boot and WITHOUT the usb dongle? The ssv6061 driver is crappy but usually it works, Don't expect high performance, thought TY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- @Maker39 I have the EXACT identical board as the blue one with rtl 8703 . That should be a real 3229 with REAL 2 giga ram ddr3. This is one of the best board I own , also called SARDINE, I like it very much, but.. but... never was able to have wifi working on it ...NEVER about the green board, never seen before so no tests on that. But in lib/modules should be any possible driver for wifi , but I repeat, on Sardine never was able to have wifi
  16. @MFaust ty for detailling your experience, another 322x board that works with Armbian That crappy ssv6051 driver usually creates TWO wlan interfaces: one p2p and the other a REAL wlan0 . Try to investigate if from command line NMTUi >> activate a connection >> shows you a real wlan0 apart from p2p connection
  17. @Maker39 well I have plenty of those running on different ip's and for different purposes: one example is domotic, I control the temp in my home with prelay on other i have my asterisk pbx voip server running with actually extension even over the world again samba and printer share, hole dns resolver ( ad blocking) and one of my preferite, my vpn server if you want use this board as headless, well it is perfect ( really even desktop is running smoothly) Of course this could occur , too many commercial variations, but backbone I should say is robust enough now Any way all reports and feedbacks are highly appreciated, ty
  18. @Maker39 Ok the frequency of DDR is set to the 600 MHz value that is maximum for that board. Can you report overall impression on board functionality ?
  19. thank you for feedback and summarize!! and efuse says you really on a rk3229 and not a 3228 this 23 39 is 32 29 in reverse order but shows that not using frequency scaling PLEASE would you attach the dtb you are using here @jock is the kernel compiled with dmc, yes ? if so need to edit the dtb to enable the dmc into the right node
  20. @Maker39 you are welcome yes , me too I use it with some economic relais https://www.ebay.it/itm/NEW-2-Channel-USB-Relay-5V-Programmable-Computer-Control-For-Smart-Home/352565804995?hash=item52168f3fc3:g:SA0AAOSwWI5cN~Ff and this project : https://github.com/ondrej1024/crelay with this app on telephone, even idf made for raspberry it works perfectly https://apk.support/app/com.jasonfindlay.pirelaypro
  21. @jock was my mistake, i suggested maker to use r329 q but i missed that is a mmc @Maker39 sorry for that follow jock suggestion about wifi yes it makes two connection , a p2p and a managed one to choose the right one you can try from ssh with command nmtui and then activate a connection
  22. @Maker39 you have a nice board with ddr3 ram . This is good since you will have really good performances use the r329 q ONLY and please post output of: cat /sys/class/devfreq/dmc/trans_stat hexdump -C /sys/bus/nvmem/devices/rockchip-efuse0/nvmem dmesg | grep wlan maybe you should blacklist some modules under /lib/modules
  23. @Maker39 would you explain the meaning of this sentence ? It hangs ? no video ? video and not audio ? What exactly If you have read all the posts in this 3ad you should have realized that just giving the COMMERCIAL name or the advertizing on ram and or processor doesn't help very much so please try to enumerate in more detailled way all the problems you are experimenting BTW i am using win32 disk imager
