Hello, fellow H96 musers. I've just acquired a 4G/32G H96 Max V56, and tried to flash an image that works on an earlier 8G/64G H96 Max V56, using the appropriate 4G booloader rather than the one I used for the 8G. The HAOS image boots fine, but everything about the Ethernet and WiFi must be wrong, as I have no networking hardware configured. I'm curious to know if there are differences between the 4G/32G board and the 8G/64G, other than eMMC size, that might account for the above outcome? There was some early mention of 'type 1' and 'type 2' 4G/32G boards early on in this thread. Could I be using an inappropriate device tree source configuration for my 4G/32G board? If that's not it, then the only other thing I can think of, is that the 4G/32G board I recently acquired has different WiFi/Bluetooth and Ethernet chips fitted, and the drivers from my 8G/64G build aren't suited? 8G/64G H96 Max V56 PCB: LP6E27116A0 Wifi/BT: HC16335, S3144335 Ethernet: Realtek, RTL8211 4G/32G H96 Max V56 PCB: LS6E28533A0 Wifi/BT: SKI.WB800D80S.1_D40, 2023AP20230(M) Ethernet: Maxio, MAE0621A-02C Thoughts, board type clarification, or driver suggestions, anyone? Awesome, @guenter. I'm debugging a board support layer for the Home Assistant OS, which targets the H96 Max. The fabulous work found in this thread, has been both inspiration and foundation for the port to Buildroot. Please forgive my ignorance, I haven't been back here for some time. Did anyone ever work-out how to control the blue enclosure illumination, and front panel display for this device? I would be very grateful for code snippets, or and suggestions on how to approach investigating the above. I spoke to HSTC. They didn't speak back, so beyond this plea, I'm not feeling optimistic. I'm curious to experiment with LLMs on an RK3566 TV Box. I managed to build a working Debian disto for it, but wasn't able to locate any NPU support in the kernel configuration. Anyone know how to build such a kernel for the RK3566, with support for the inbuilt NPU, or preferably, how to add build a NPU kernel module that can be linked-in? Any hints, suggestion or links greatly appreciated. GBEM 👽

Hi, Armi. Thanks for your very welcome comments about the write-up. I suspect adb may be an Android thing, and is a total mystery to me. Try shorting the eMMC CLK and GND pads, then running lsusb and look for the Rockchip MASK ROM loader there. I also started-out with a hacked-together USB type-A male to type-A male cable. Yours might be different, but mine would only work plugged in one direction, and was so problematic that I finally relented and bought a 1-meter commercial cable. I think it was only around AUD$5. Thanks, @Hqnicolas Curiously, It's both the reset button method, and eMMC CLK shorting MASK ROM modes that go away. The device boots into MASK ROM mode, as opposed to a normal boot, however there's no USB device available to flash with. Trash the bootloader and you get the MASK ROM (CLK shorting) mode back. I'm not bothered by it. It's just something to be aware of I guess. Sooner or later someone is going to say that their box is comprehensively bricked. Without an SD card socket or TTL port to upset the offending eMMC bootloader, to a certain extent that may be true. Golly, I can't tell you all just how very pleased I am with Armbian on my H96 Max V56 TV box. It works so remarkably well, and is a tremendous credit to all those that have diligently worked on it, and have brought it to this stage. I can't wait to see where it goes from here. Awesome! Hello, I've just discovered Armbian, an OS that I'm sure I can make good use of on my H96 Max V56 rk3566 8GB/64GB. Thank you to all contributors for such an awesome project. I'd like to help-out somehow, but GitHub & issues reporting is beyond my comprehension. Thought I'd raise a few queries here, in the hope that issue 1 might gravitate to the appropriate maintainer. 1. bootloader issue: When built for the H96 Max V56, the resulting image will boot from an SD card okay, can be installed from the SD card, or can be installed via MASK ROM mode. After installation on the eMMC, however, the RockChip rk3566 MASK ROM mode refuses to connect. It apparently doesn't like something in the bootloader, as when overwritten with an historical bootloader, the MASK ROM mode works fine again (but the system then won't boot). 2. backup rkdeveloptool: Some difficulty in obtaining working backups from MASK ROM mode with this tool. sudo ./rkdeveloptool db H96-MAX-8gb-MiniLoaderAll.bin sudo ./rkdeveloptool rl 0 122142720 backup.img && beep sudo ./rkdeveloptool rd sudo ./rkdeveloptool db H96-MAX-8gb-MiniLoaderAll.bin sudo ./rkdeveloptool wl 0 backup.img && beep sudo ./rkdeveloptool rd Won't boot! Can anyone familiar with this tool see my error? 3. npu. I can't find a driver for the RockChip NPU in the kernel configuration during an Armbian build.
