Nofan Tasi reacted to balbes150 in Please help us to make the $30 Android TV box the promising bright future of internet and software freedom
@ballerburg9005
I read what you write and once again I was convinced-you are a banal troll, who, hiding behind beautiful slogans, is trying to get support for the shit that you bought. You're trying to convince other users to buy this shit ($30 aml tv boxes), and then try to get support by relying on a lot of idits who will follow this advice and buy this shit. There is no point in proving anything to the troll, it is useless. I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be a banal peddler of this shit. If you are such a freedom fighter, here is a ready - made solution for your ideas about freedom-Station M1\P1. This is a completely finished product for the most "average Joe". It does not need to alter anything for normal cooling, you do not need to assemble it from different parts, you do not need to spend time on debugging software, etc.And most importantly, this equipment has guaranteed support, and for every taste - Android or Linux (Armbian Slarm Freebsd and bunch of different specialized distributions for different tasks, etc.). But you don't need it, you want to make others work for the shit that you like (profitable) .
P.S. About the inner kitchen of AML and the device, I know much more than you and my refusal to support them is based on real knowledge, but I'm not going to waste time explaining everything to you in detail and convincing you. The only advice I can give to anyone reading this is to absolutely avoid this shit.

I opened this theme to support running ArmbianTV on 32-bit ARM models. To date, there are first results on launching ArmbianTV on the Rockchip rk3288 and AML s8xx platform (in the future, by analogy with aarch64, I plan to switch to a common image for all 32-bit models of TV boxes).
The link to the images

MEGA (name -rk3288)
https://mega.nz/#F!j9QSDQSQ!6WpasOlbZYIInfw6yo4phQ
Now you can download the latest versions of images and DEB packages from the official Armbian resource via the link.
https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/
Recommended startup procedure on UM3.
1. Install the Linux firmware version in eMMC (either a dual boot or a single Linux).
2. follow these instructions to download and run the Linux version from linuxium
https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/rk3288-devices/21091-use-windows-to-create-an-sd-card-so-you-can-run-linux-on-a-rk3288-device
(do not forget to immediately expand the system partition to the entire media after writing the image). After launch, make a full backup eMMC with the DD command (or copy the ddbr utility to the system and use it).
3. Erase the first 4Mb on eMMC (using a simple DD command).
4. Download, unpack and burn the ArmbianTV image to your SD card.
5. Connect to the TV box and turn on the power. The system will start automatically.
For those who are not afraid to lose their regular firmware and be able to easily restore it later, you can use the "accelerated" launch option (erase eMMC use the tools for Rockchip TV boxes).

The clean build of the Focal-server on NanoPC T4 with NVMe took 22 minutes.

A clean test build of the Focal-server image on the Ugoos X2 TV box (s905x2). The build system (Armbian Bionic desktop) is started from the SD card. I cloned GIT, started the build, and the system automatically got all the necessary packages (dependencies), installed them, and started the build (downloading sources, building the kernel, and so on). The entire process from the start of the build to the output of the finished image took exactly 201 minutes. The total amount of space used on the SD card (together with the finished image) it was about 11 GB. This means that 16 GB of storage will be enough to build the server version (perhaps 16 GB will be enough for the desktop version). I consider this a good result for a minimal device with 4 cores and the slowest media (SD card).
It would be interesting to compare the results of the build process on different TV boxes (chips) with different media.

The good news is that the issue with building u-boot for universal arm-64 images in the Assembly system directly on ARM has been resolved. As a side result, it allows you to build your own version of the core or a ready-made image directly on the TV box with minimal costs (using the Armbian build system). Thus, the first stage of transferring the build of all ArmbianTV images to the ARM platform is completed. Test images 20200521 with u-boot for rk3399 added to the images on the site (as it was previously in all universal images).

Nofan Tasi reacted to balbes150 in Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW (aarch64 ARMv8)
Version 20200519.
This version is fully built not mediocre on the ARM platform (rk3399).
I checked how the images work on different models, and no problems were found. The system works identically to the version built using the old scheme via cross-compilation on x86. While these images do not have u-boot and to run from the SD card on RK3399 add u-boot, as described at the beginning of the topic.
Now anyone can build their own version of ArmbianTV not mediocre on their device.

Perhaps this is a feature of publishing new files in the Armbian repository (now there is a huge load on resources and there may be failures).
Yes, the update should take place automatically (I fixed the packages for this).
P.S. Do not rush, a new version 5.6-rc7 is coming soon. I plan to send it to the Armbian network repo (I have already uploaded some deb files to my site along with the new version of images).

Yes, the new package is sent to this repo. When it is there, when the update command (apt upgrade) is executed, the new kernel should automatically update.

Nofan Tasi reacted to balbes150 in Plans for the development of Armbian-TV.
In the new year, I plan to focus on improving and developing Armbian-TV (Armbian-TV is a version that is based on the official Armbian, aimed at improved support for media capabilities and ease of use by ordinary users) support for the platforms Rockchip and Allwinner (perhaps a few more platforms will be added that are not yet in use). To do this, I have already ordered several popular models based on rk3399 (NanoPC T4, RockPi 4, Renegade-Elite), in a complete set with obligatory Support of nvme carriers (I consider this support essentially important, for transition of TV boxes and SBS to the category of mini-PC, as highly effective and improved replacement of the usual PC). I'm plan to buy several more models on Allwinner (I'm still evaluating the capabilities of the selected models).
I had plans to buy some more models based on rk3399 from other manufacturers, but there were problems with delivery and / or payment for my country.
If anyone has any suggestions for models that I should consider, I'm willing to listen to reasonable descriptions of the models.
