  1. I try to Enable OV5640 on Banana Pi M64 too;used armbian with kernel 5.10; but when kernel start OV5640 has an error [ 6.771712] brcmfmac: brcmf_c_preinit_dcmds: Firmware: BCM43430/1 wl0: Mar 30 2016 11:30:56 version 7.45.77.h8.4 FWID 01-ee8a6268 [ 7.185164] ov5640 1-003c: ov5640_read_reg: error: reg=300a [ 7.185180] ov5640 1-003c: ov5640_set_power_on: failed to read chip identifier [ 7.904788] Adding 985724k swap on /dev/zram0. 2. yes, u are right that means there is no conversion. The app is very simple; open camera with opencv videocapturer and grap image with opencv(v3.4.10) and calculate fps (no display). Setup Pine64+ 1GB A64 Kernel 5.9.3 with HBV1318 ov5640 usb camera cpu usage is %6-8 at each core and total cpu usage %25 -31 ( 640*480*30FPS) device listed as doccamera: doccamera (usb-1c1a000.usb-1): /dev/video4 /dev/video5
  3. Thank you @@lex i got my new OV5640 camera and working with 5.9.x Cpu usage around %70 with opencv V4l2 capture fmt:UYVY8_2X8/640x480@30FPS and %60 with JPEG_1X8/640x480@30FPS. It is higher than i expect. i thought csi camera uses GPU to grab image. Usb ov5640 cpu usage around %25 with similar settings. is it normal? Do you have any idea. Thank you.
  4. Yes, it works fine, but be careful with mainline kernel AVDD / DOVDD / DVDD supply, i have burned out 6 sensors with the wrong settings. Search the forum for OV5640, i have advised one with ~130º lens if i remembered correctly. I would buy 2 or 3 from different sources (or different models) since you are not sure what you will get.
  5. yes sensor is ov5640 and not reversed maybe there was a hardware issue, i dont know, i ordered a new one. Btw i have a reversed one (BP camera). I double check everything but no luck. May i ask is ov5640 works without any issue with a64 (pine64) or could you advise any camera ? i need 30 fps 640x480 to process with opencv. Thank you
  6. This error is: /* No such device or address */ You should double-check: 1. Is your sensor OV5640? 2. Check the connector, some are reversed 180º which is the case for BPI and Orange Pi. There is a Thread about it, 3 years old a think.
  7. Hi, I am working more than 4 days but no luck, could you share your dts and config file. 14. So, some time ago I made some custom changes to DTB to get the OV5640 camera working on a Banana Pi M2 Zero. I was successful, and made notes on the files that I changed. Now, I'm working with the same source tree, but cleaned out. So I wanted to make my changes again because I did not know about CREATE_PATCHES then. So, i built my new image, and made the changes to the dts files. But now, /dev/media0 does not show up. I have 2 boards. One with my prior image that is fully functioning (Board A), a new one that is missing /dev/media0 (Board B). First thing I did was compare the kernel configs. They are identical. For fun, I copied the kernel from A to B. That did not resolve the missing /dev/media0 from B. Then, I copied the board specific DTB file over from A to B. (sun8i-h2-plus-bananapi-m2-zero.dtb). Upon rebooting Board B, /dev/media0 shows up. Ah Ha. So, there is some change I made on the original build that does not show up in the new build. So, I reversed the DTB on both boards to DTS files and compared them. Sadly, the changes are minimal. Most of the difference are dynamic addresses defined during the build. I'm just really not sure what else could be going on here. If anyone has any experience, I would really appreciate it. I attached the 2 DTS files, and diff output is just this: diff sun8i-h2-plus-bananapi-m2-zero.dts sun8i-h2-plus-bananapi-m2-zero.dts.good 241d240 < broken-cd; 248c247 < cd-gpios = < 0x0c 0x05 0x06 0x00 >; --- > broken-cd; 255c254 < pinctrl-0 = < 0x0d >; --- > pinctrl-0 = < 0x0c >; 267c266 < mmc-pwrseq = < 0x0e >; --- > mmc-pwrseq = < 0x0d >; 275c274 < interrupt-parent = < 0x0c >; --- > interrupt-parent = < 0x0e >; 453c452 < phandle = < 0x0c >; --- > phandle = < 0x0e >; 518c517 < phandle = < 0x0d >; --- > phandle = < 0x0c >; 818,820c817,819 < device-wakeup-gpios = < 0x0c 0x06 0x0d 0x00 >; < host-wakeup-gpios = < 0x0c 0x06 0x0b 0x00 >; < shutdown-gpios = < 0x0c 0x06 0x0c 0x00 >; --- > device-wakeup-gpios = < 0x0e 0x06 0x0d 0x00 >; > host-wakeup-gpios = < 0x0e 0x06 0x0b 0x00 >; > shutdown-gpios = < 0x0e 0x06 0x0c 0x00 >; 903,904c902,903 < reset-gpios = < 0x0c 0x04 0x0e 0x01 >; < powerdown-gpios = < 0x0c 0x04 0x0f 0x00 >; --- > reset-gpios = < 0x0e 0x04 0x0e 0x01 >; > powerdown-gpios = < 0x0e 0x04 0x0f 0x00 >; 1305c1304 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x01 0x08 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x01 0x08 0x00 >; 1316c1315 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x01 0x09 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x01 0x09 0x00 >; 1328c1327 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x07 0x06 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x07 0x06 0x00 >; 1340c1339 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x07 0x03 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x07 0x03 0x00 >; 1402c1401 < reset-gpios = < 0x0c 0x06 0x0c 0x00 >; --- > reset-gpios = < 0x0e 0x06 0x0c 0x00 >; 1441c1440 < phandle = < 0x0e >; --- > phandle = < 0x0d >; 1449c1448 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x00 0x08 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x03 0x0e 0x00 >; 1461c1460 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x00 0x08 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x03 0x0e 0x00 >; 1473c1472 < gpio = < 0x0c 0x00 0x07 0x00 >; --- > gpio = < 0x0e 0x00 0x07 0x00 >; Each of these address is referenced in the file, like this: reset-gpios = <&pio 6 12 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>; /* PG12 */ So I've reached the conclusion that it's most likely dynamically creating the address that it points to (&pio) at build time. The only other real difference is is cd-gpios = < 0x0c 0x05 0x06 0x00 >; This exists only on my good image, and it's attached to the MMC device for card detection. sun8i-h2-plus-bananapi-m2-zero.dts.good sun8i-h2-plus-bananapi-m2-zero.dts

  17. Greetings, Some time ago, I built armbian with kernel 5.4.51. I applied a patch to two dts files that allowed for the OV5640 camera to work. By "work", I mean /dev/video0 was present in the system and /dev/media0 was also present. I could set camera parameters with media-ctl pointing to /dev/media0. Now, I've updated, and using a legacy kernel, 5.4.65, I cannot reproduce this. I've applied the same dts changes, but upon booting this image /dev/media0 is missing. I've compared the two kernel configurations, and there are very minimal differences: # diff config-5.4.51-sunxi /boot/config-5.4.65-sunxi 3c3 < # Linux/arm 5.4.51 Kernel Configuration --- > # Linux/arm 5.4.65 Kernel Configuration 2116d2115 < # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SR_VENDOR is not set 2644a2644 > # CONFIG_RTL8192EU is not set 3165a3166 > CONFIG_SPI_DYNAMIC=y likewise, comparing loaded modules shows me that on my 5.4.65 build ov5640 is not in use: Module Size Used by ov5640 28672 0 On my 5.4.51 build, it is in use. I'm not sure where to go from here.
  18. Providing logs with armbianmonitor -u helps with troubleshooting and significantly raises chances that issue gets addressed. And https://forum.armbian.com/search/?q=ov5640&quick=1&type=forums_topic
  19. Hello Everyone! I faced with some problems with csi driver on mainline kernel. The study of the Internet did not give any result. Probably someone already done the same things, and could answer on couple of my questions? My configuration: custom board based on A20 SoC (quite similar with Olimex Lime2), armbian-buster-desktop 20.05.0, Linux Kernel 5.4.41, and OV5640 CSI camera connected to CSI0 in parallel 8bit mode. My questions are: 1) Can anyone confirm that the sun4i_csi module in Mainline kernel works (with any CSI camera)? 2) Does the sun4i_csi module work with CSI1 port too? 3) If someone already run OV5640 via CSI on A20 SoC, what is the maximum fps can be reach at FullHD mode? (I estimate that I can reach 30fps, but I'm not sure about that). I will be very grateful for any information, links, dts, patches, sources, and so.
  20. I Wish for cameradrivers on csi port to be added in kernel or to be installable from a repo. OV5640 for H3 and H6 GC2035 for H3 and H6 OV13850 For RK3399 .... thanks, friendly regards. joel
  21. Looking at the BSP code and the driver, I think my change to the clock can be ignored now - it's coupled to the framerate, so even if it had been correct I think it would halve the framerate. I think I will start looking at clocking on the SoC, after that I could only guess at electrical design issues(?). @mostly has an H3 and I have an H5 which have issues, but Lex has an H3 and A64 which work, which makes me worry it's an electrical design issue... I think the auto focus patch should still work if the couple of lines changing clocks are removed though. Lex, thanks, I think you don't need to worry about testing the change. I'll make a thread for ov5640 improvements for things like the auto focus after looking at this issue (SoC/board specific corrupted green/pink images) for a bit more. I haven't been concerned with framerate, just looking at what ffmpeg output. The rates I mentioned before were just the configured rate in media-ctl. @mostly No, I've never seen 30fps at 1080p sorry, I was referring to the configured rate. I only get 2 or 3 fps at 1080p but I've realised that's because the clock change is wrong. I agree that it might be time to look at clocking on the SoC side. I've ordered an Orange Pi One with an H3 to see if I can get different behaviour from an H3 on a different board.
  22. Yes, it is. On nanopi neo air with armbian 20.08.0 (5.7.8) it works. FFmpeg with 960x720 input from our camera* encode mp4 by h264_omx with 15-20 fps. If i use cedrus264 as codec, ffmpeg can easy provide 30 fps. With default cam500b i get 60 fps 640x480 (that is maximum of the camera). Fps numbers i get from ffmpeg log and i think this results is accurate enough. * our camera isn't ov5640 default camera and 30 fps likely it's maximum fps. We haven't camera's datasheet.
  23. I will test with and without asap and give some feedback. Perhaps you should open a new thread, something like "Improving ov5640 (mainline)" and push your code/patch there (up to you). How do you test your FPS? Maybe you could get inspired by the BSP code: https://github.com/avafinger/ov5640/blob/A64/ov5640.c#L4577
  24. Tried it and got almost adequate FHD picture with OV5640_PCLK_ROOT_DIV / 2 . If using ffmpeg, the only problem that i see is that there is more green than expected. In the meantime, i brought up h264 hw encoding from uboborov sunxi-cedar-mainline + uvc_h264_lb_allwinner (turned on writing to file and FPS calculation in settings inside main.c). It works well with 1280x720@15fps (real 15fps in h264 file), but with 1920x1080 OV5640_PCLK_ROOT_DIV / 2 it gives some artifacts with colors and adds shadows to dark objects on white background. Not sure yet if this problem is from hw encoder side or ov5640. Were you able to get real 30fps? uvc_h264_lb_allwinner shows actual FPS, and 1280x720 framerate is always 15 and 1920x1080 framerate is always 7 regardless of what set in media-ctl format @ 1/ So a64 does not need that patch, and also does not need "connecting the clock parent in the device tree" in dts. Since we see these strange clocks behavior, can this custom clock source be not suitable for some modes?...
