TRS-80 Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 I liked the first title? Anyway, you are on a roll today. If I'm being honest, I thought the Pine Distro sponsorship was a bit gimmicky (and also infected with "social justice" nonsense) however giving away 1,000 boards to people (even if they are small and inexpensive) is still quite a nice gesture. Good marketing for them, anyway, and still a lot cheaper than hiring another dev... All cynicism aside, if we end up with an actual blob free, small form factor, low power multi mode device, it will be a win-win. So maybe even brilliant on their part? I dunno.
renky Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Quote cheaper than hiring another dev pine64.com has declared, that in general they do not have the means to contract people in order to get their products ready for everyday use. I think it is wrong if free software people who make essential contributions do not get compensation. Fact is, free software people have not been able to device a scheme to make that happen. Do you have one? If pine64.com were to utilize what ever people contribute, paying no compensation, making money on it and bunker the money for their own uses, then it would be an abusive behavior. Can you document that that is what pine64.com is doing? Else you are engaging in derogative claims.
