v88 mars - rk322x - crashes on apt-get upgrade or when starting firefox

I have issue with using v88 mars android box with Armbian Focal xfce kernel 4.4.194 (legacy). Installation to nand with multitool every time progress and finish without problem. Also rk322x-config and armbian-config progress without problem. But when I start apt-get upgrade after successful apt-get update system crashes from X to terminal with many kernel messages (see image). Power adapter is original 5V 2A. I reinstalled system few times and it was always without problem. sudo rk322x-config successful and can be seen on images. As this box does not have fan I installed usb powered small fan and cpu never goes over 55 °C, when there was no fan CPU was over 80 °C. I also experienced freeze in X when starting Firefox.

It seems that your box is not very stable or has some issues with onboard nand.

Try to configure the board as rk3228 and boot from sdcard.

Yours is a cheap tv box, made with very cheap components, and some of them may be faulty.

Next time, however, write in the RK322x specific thread in tv boxes forum club to get answers sooner

Booting from sdcard does not work with Armbian images. I erased flash with bootable multitool.img and after that with etcher flashed focal legacy image but it does not boot. Librelec image boots. I also tried buster legacy image, but it was also not successful.

Uhm, are you sure you erased flash correctly?

LibreELEC boots even if the original bootloader is installed, but Armbian images use custom made boot which does not work with original bootloader (hence you need to erase the eMMC flash memory first)

A serial port would be much helpful here to do debugging.

BTW, the reference forum thread is https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12656-csc-armbian-for-rk322x-tv-boxes/

After nothing was successful with legacy (4.4) kernel, I have found that image with current 5.9 kernel does not have any stability issue with my Scishion V88 Mars device. I´m happy with that, even though performance is much worse.

Happy you're happy, but performance should not be so much worse: legacy and mainline have similar CPU performance and usually legacy has better compatibility

Yes, you are right it, is not so bad performance wise between 4.4 and 5.9. Any clues why is 4.4 unstable, for sure, it is cheap and slow computer but new kernel works without issues and there was no problems with Android on it? Firefox crashes (Chromium is great) but system does not stops working because of it, 5.9 works flawlessly.

Could you give me the guide to install 5.9 kernel? Actually I got the same issues with my 2 MXQ RK3229 boxes. THank you.
