ZFS vs BTRFS for NAS

I have read a few forum posts on the topic but I'm still not convinced.

Which one is safer and more stable for Armbian based NAS?

I previously had issues and data loss on BTRFS. However I now hear that it's much more stable. I been using ZFS on FreeBSD without any issues for years and I would prefer it but it seems that it's a hit and miss to get it working. I just did and it was very easy but I read that people have random issues with upgrades etc.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

You could always flip a coin.  :D

Jokes aside (and Reading your OP again carefully) you did state that you lean towards ZFS.  Which I do too, personally.  Anyway, I can tell you that running ZFS on Armbian have become significantly easier lately, as all the excitement around it got Igor working on it and I am pretty sure the relevant bits are built into the kernels that Armbian are shipping these days.  And this was not the case even just a few months ago (it was just being worked on around the time of the above linked post in fact).  As that seemed to be your main objection, I am not sure if that fact alone is enough to finally nudge you to decide in that direction or not.

FWIW, I am planning a ZFS build finally, based on ROCKPro64 and a SATA board which I read reports of working well.  I would just recommend doing your homework, especially around related hardware, and how well supported it is in Linux.

Well looks like we are on the same boat. I guess maybe what I would love to hear is an "official" (if there is such a thing) statement from Raspbian regarding ZFS support. Whats reassuring so far is that Kobol (Hlios NAS) for example looks like they are recommending ZFS on Armbian.
