mcmanuf Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Hi, I am trying to optimize torrent download speeds on SBC. and I have the RPI4-2GB board. I get somewhat similar results for the Odroid HC1. I only download 1 torrent at a time, and I dont upload. So very simple requirements. On a 1000/1000Mbit connection. Samsung 4TB 870QVO HDD - UAS enabled and tested with good controller. Same file downloaded multiple times. So the external factors such as the ISP or the Storage is for sure NOT the bottleneck here. Transmission - 21MB/s ~ 168Mbit/s qBittorrent - 34,8MB/s ~ 278,4 Mbit/s ruTorrent - 29,3MB/s ~ 234,4 Mbit/s Laptop - 118,7MB/s ~ 950 Mbit/s I have identified that transmission bottlenecks on the CPU, because transmission is only running singlecore. However both qBittorrent or ruTorrent are multicore, and they both dont stress the CPU near 100%. More like 30-50%. Also the total system memoy usage with torrent client is less than 900MB. I simply cannot grasp what is the bottleneck in the RPI4? It cannot be ISP, cpu, ram, or storage. So im in doubt. Are there ANY SBC boards out there that even comes close to 1000Mbit torrent download capability?
Werner Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 Hard to tell since Armbian does not really deal with RPi. That board was added quite recently to the build script as a community contribution. So no official support for it. However maybe anyone else got an idea. Moved to off-topic in the mean time. Edit: If it comes to best supported/power balance I can recommend any RK3399 SoC based SBC.
mcmanuf Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 Hi. Thanks for answer. Don't really understand why you would move it to off topic. I am asking for forum members, who have some insight in better sbc than rpi4 for torrent downloads? How is that off topic?
mcmanuf Posted February 11, 2022 Author Posted February 11, 2022 Also I mention I also have the Odroid HC1, which give similar results, as the cpu performance is comparable with rpi4. So would really like some insights from other members on which sbc platform I should look deeper into
Werner Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 moved back. Sorry I did not get it right the first time.
