When starting orange pi, it happens that not all the RAM is available. That is, the orange pi has 2 GB of RAM and it is written that there is only 1 GB of RAM.  This often happens when restarting using the reboot command. If you turn off the power and reconnect, this problem appears much less often.

Very strange behavior. But unfortunately this happens. This is similar to the fact that one memory chip soldered to the device cannot work at a frequency \ mode at which the other chip works normally.

A possible solution to the problem is to experimentally select the operating modes on which both chips will function normally. Try to register this in the device tree overlay file. This will only be your personal file.

But unfortunately I am not an assistant in this matter.

It can't be called a marriage. The device board was tested before sale. The test image did not register an error and the device was sold.

 

I have 4 RAM bars of different manufacturers on an x86 machine. All of them say that they work at 1800 Mhz, but one bar works stably only at 1600.

I just set this frequency and enjoy stable operation.

 

You can set the value of the variable "verbosity=7" in the file "/boot/armbianEnv.txt " and see what the UART output shows.

When you can catch a stable value and the value of the frequency at which one memory chip fails, then write here and call me like this: @going

I have a very similar problem, I think, I bought Orange Pi 3 LTS with 2GB memory in the description, but only 1GB (984MB) is available. I don't know if is it a hardware or software problem. Could you help me?

@lissizza Which image is currently running on your device. Why am I asking?
Whether some other was downloaded, for example from the manufacturer's website or another Armbian edition.

@going there was Armbian_22.05.0-trunk_Orangepi3-lts_focal_edge_5.16.19_xfce_desktop.img first (because the image of 22.11.1 downloaded from the official Orange Pi 3 LTS page didn't start, both cli and desktop versions, and I hadn't USB-to-TTL interface). And then I tried Orangepi3-lts_3.0.8_debian_bullseye_desktop_xfce_linux5.16.17 image  from the Orange Pi website n the hope that it will help to fix the memory problem, but it didn't, all the same.

Maybe the android version will work.
I only need a dtb blob from the working version.
These chips, according to the data that I found, can work with a voltage of a little more or less.
The question is the exact figure. If we have any working image. I'll pull the information out of it and assemble a working kernel for you.

There was a working Android pre-installed on my Orange Oi on eMMS, but I didn't see how much memory it shows until I rewrote it with Linux :(

The Orangepi3-lts_3.0.8_debian_bullseye_desktop_xfce_linux5.16.17 is working now. The official distro of the Orange Pi team is here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1A9-Y6O_1pJELM2GM2D7cJ110Z3wfh72L/view?usp=share_link

I tried now to extract all the dtb and decompiled them into dts files, and now I don't know where I can find the memory section :) Is it in `36_dtbdump_,OrangePi_3_LTS.dts`? If it is hard to tell I leave it to you :) Thank you for helping!

 

I have also some additional problems.

1. After rebooting, the computer won't boot immediately. I need to turn off the power for about 1 minute and only after that, I can boot.

2. I couldn't be able to start the graphics desktop with my 4K display. I added the string extraargs=video=HDMI-A-1:1920x1080@60 to my boot configuration file and after that, I can see the console boot log messages, but it seems I cannot switch to another graphic mode with xrandr

Can we try to get information from the other side?
For example, show what is written directly on the printed circuit board: the name of the device and its version.

Exactly the same for me. One of 10 times when you turn it on, it says that 4GB DRAM is not loaded further. After a reboot everything is back to normal. There is only one memory chip. sorry for bad english, i use google translate
