kevinhope Posted December 1 Posted December 1 (edited) Flash 25.2.0 (The Latest Built Dec 01) to a SD card and boot a Orange Pi 3 LTS, Ethernet lost after sudo reboot the board. It did not even come back after physically power off and on. Have anyone experienced the same problem? The same board worked very well with Debian Bullseyes (downloaded from http://www.orangepi.org/html/hardWare/computerAndMicrocontrollers/service-and-support/Orange-pi-3-LTS.html). I googled and found Orange Pi 3B has similar problem. https://www.reddit.com/r/OrangePI/comments/1aojmn3/orange_pi_3b_ethernet_doesnt_work/ Edited December 1 by kevinhope Complete the post 0 Quote
kris777 Posted December 10 Posted December 10 Orange pi 3 LTS is not supported by Armbian developers but only by the forum community ... so do not count on super correct operation of this model and Armbian firmware, it is probably better to use the official FW from OrangePi for now, although the versions are not updated often and the last ones are from 2022. However, they work well, although I do not have high requirements for this model because I use it as an internet radio 🙂 0 Quote

Without any updates and maintenance for years. Official FW: https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/orangepi-build/tree/next/scripts Armbian in 2022: https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/v22.08/lib We provide archive for (almost) all previously stabilized images: https://archive.armbian.com/orangepi3-lts/archive/ which are in better shape, but update might break them, so freezing of kernel is required. 0 Quote
kris777 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 (edited) OK ... but the fact remains that the official version of OrangePi works OK ... and the latest Armbian is nothing but trouble, precisely because there is no longer support from Armbian developers, only from the community on the forum. So I recommend this older firmware from 2022 on OrangePi3 LTS because it works properly. It's great to know that it's still a version of Armbian from years ago 🙂 Ps. I checked I2C with my 40x2 lcd and the kernel probably doesn't work? ...lots of errors on these community Firmware ... Edited December 14 by kris777 0 Quote

If you leave support to random community, it falls apart. This is the case with all hardware. Armbian community is not Armbian anymore, perhaps we will start to release that under different name to make even bigger distance. One can always use an old image (similar to "official" image) as it is impossible to provide images in perfect state in moving kernel, not even for one device, for 100 USD per month. (Rpi foundation has around 2M usd budget per year FYI, to get an idea how big loss we make by supporting your wrong purchase), And this is open source - competitors largely does not contribute, and often harm our developers. Orangepi also does not help in positive way and are also not interesting that your hardware works well as you won't buy a new device ... Which is how they make money. tl;dr; There is very very little help and we do what we can. 0 Quote
kris777 Posted Tuesday at 08:13 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:13 PM Every rational user knows exactly what it's about... after all, no one will spend their time updating and improving the firmware for every piece of equipment, even if it's only from OrangePi. Unless you're a retiree and have a lot of time and willingness and a sharp mind... oopsss 🙂 Or maybe some other form of help could be used instead of the so-called help from the community (which probably means no one) from the forum? For example, a form of payment for a specialist, developer to adjust or update a specific piece of equipment/model, e.g. OrangePi3-LTS in the form of a progress bar of payments for a given model? ... I wonder if there are people willing to use this form of help... So a proverbial fundraiser for a specific model? Ps. I found a version for OrangePi3-lts with an old, properly working kernel: 15.16.17.7 ... but Debian is already a bookworm https://github.com/silver-alx/sbc/releases 0 Quote

Yeah, its stupid, but its also fun, just not all the time and not always. Actually R&D is mainly deep and intense suffering with part of great joy. 29 minutes ago, kris777 said: old, properly working kernel Oh, that is Allwinner stock that nobody ever touched after it was released to public ... There hardware features usually works, but everything else is highly questionable. That images looks to be made by Orangepi fork of Armbian tools. If they would cooperate and contribute to our tool, then it would be much easier ... 29 minutes ago, kris777 said: I wonder if there are people willing to use this form of help... We tried to raise funds in few occasions. It works to some degree, but costs of organizing this are usually higher then outcome. Organizer of this event must come as volunteer that would help us funding a person(s) that would help everyone ... Sounds complicated, but project needs many other profiles, not just people that knows how to code. 0 Quote
