ValdikSS Posted February 4 Posted February 4 5 часов назад, brentr сказал: Are you still having trouble booting after upgrading, even after following the procedure earlier in this post flagged "solution"? Only after I manually did the steps you've described, it started to boot. In other words, the apt-upgrade path is still broken. Was the fix for apt-upgrade not planned? P.S. kernel 6.12 power consumption is slightly higher than 6.6, both in idle and in suspend. Since Truenox mentioned working audio, does 6.12 come with always-enabled audio domain power? 0 Quote

Fix was integrated https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/cafe0ff79fb69320e6c94719bef5679ec85c5ac5 and pushed to the repo that day. It should work, try with switching to beta repository just to make sure. Perhaps mechanism for updating is borked somehow? Sadly we don't have time / resources to test every contribution manually. 0 Quote
ValdikSS Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Igor, the package itself doesn't seem to be present in the repository, I guess? I did run armbian-install to force-update u-boot after apt-upgrade, but it's still the old version. I had to extract the files from the newer image, as described in the message above, as they were not present after update in my filesystem. I had the older u-boot. Truenox Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 (edited) @ValdikSS I believe @brentr updated the image with u-boot updated to the latest version: https://www.armbian.com/rockpi-s/ (v24.11.4 with kernel 6.12.11) If you download older versions, they will come with the old u-boot and you will have to flash it manually as brent recommended. (because the u-boot not update with other way... i think...) Regarding what you say about consumption, I haven't investigated it, but you can configure your options with alsamixer for example, enabling what interests you. (For example, VRef BIAS), Audio Always-On Enable is not present on this board, or at least I am not aware of it. At the moment I'm still working on my updated image, with kernel 6.12 and the audio working perfectly. Edited February 4 by Truenox 0 Quote

Meestor_X Posted Monday at 05:06 PM Posted Monday at 05:06 PM (edited) Is there a TL;DR method now for updating the Rockpi-S past 24.11.1 so it will boot? Do I run the dpkg command that @ValdikSS suggested and then armbian-install/update boot loader? Tried that. Didn't work. Edited Monday at 05:26 PM by Meestor_X 0 Quote

Meestor_X Posted Monday at 05:48 PM Posted Monday at 05:48 PM @ValdikSS Didn't work. Do I also need to apt update && apt upgrade before or after running the dpkg command? Do I need to do something regarding my eMMC? 0 Quote
ValdikSS Posted Monday at 05:50 PM Posted Monday at 05:50 PM Только что, Meestor_X сказал: Do I also need to apt update && apt upgrade before or after running the dpkg command? Probably not. The issue is/was that the kernel is updated with a new format, but the u-boot, which supports new kernel, is not delivered via regular repository, that's why you need to download and install it manually (for now). 1 минуту назад, Meestor_X сказал: Do I need to do something regarding my eMMC? Probably. My board doesn't have eMMC, only MicroSD. I've updated the bootloader on MicroSD. You probably need to update it on both. 0 Quote
Meestor_X Posted Monday at 05:53 PM Posted Monday at 05:53 PM (edited) Ok, I'll try again, perhaps I did something incorrectly. My fault. After the install it decided to change IP addresses. Rookie move. Now both the eMMC and SD card seem to be booting. Even upgraded to trixie and all still seems to be ok. TY for your help! Is this fixable so that these extra steps are not needed?
