Orange Pi 4 Pro: USB3 HDD not detected after reboot until HDD power cycle

Featured Replies

Board: Orange Pi 4 Pro (Allwinner A733)

My externally powered USB3 HDD works normally on Armbian, but after rebooting the board while leaving the HDD powered on, it is no longer detected. Power-cycling only the HDD restores detection and normal operation.

Affected Armbian images:

  • Debian 13 (Trixie), Xfce, vendor kernel 6.6.98

  • Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute), Server, vendor kernel 6.6.98

Both Armbian images have the same problem.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect the externally powered HDD to a USB3 port.

  2. Confirm it is detected and working.

  3. Reboot the Orange Pi while leaving the HDD powered on.

  4. The HDD is no longer detected.

  5. Switch only the HDD power off and on.

  6. The HDD is detected and works again.

Expected behavior:

The HDD should be detected automatically after reboot without manually power-cycling it.

Comparison with official Orange Pi images:

Both official Orange Pi developer images I tested work correctly with the same board, HDD, cable, and power supply, including after reboot. The problem occurs with both Armbian images listed above.

The USB2 port also works correctly.

Could you help investigate this USB3 detection issue after reboot?

Tag note: My board is the Orange Pi 4 Pro (Allwinner A733). I selected orangepi4 because no orangepi4pro tag was available.
