vanilla without sound vs. legacy VGA-task

Hi, i am new here and like to say hello.

On my new cubietruck I have one after another tried to install and use wheezy and jessie with legacy and vanilla kernels. With the legacy versions i failed because there seemed to be no video-output on VGA from the kernel. The boot-process seemed to be stopped after Starting Kernel. Then i found that it was visible on HDMI but not on VGA. Because I have only VGA-Screen on my desk  i went on with vanilla jessie.

But on the download-page there is the note "No audio or accelarated video". What does it mean in detail? I installed mplayer but in fact there is no sound at the jack. Isn't therefore any driver available?

Which Task ist more easy to solve and how?

- VGA-Output from the kernel with legacy

or

- Sound with vanilla

My goal is to use Kodi and fhem. Which image will be constructive?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Dirk

No audio or accelarated video

This means it's not developed. Audio is becoming available in kernel 4.4, soon for download ... but video acceleration in Vanilla, forget it.

VGA output is possible, you need to enable / switch from hdmi / it in script.bin file.

For KODI, perhaps stock Android or -> check here. I guess it's possible (untested by me) but far from simple.

Hi Dirk,

have you succeeded? Can you help?

Here is what I changed in /boot/script.bin :

[disp_init]
disp_init_enable = 1
disp_mode = 0
screen0_output_type = 4
screen0_output_mode = 4

"screen0_output_type = 4" should mean VGA output. But this remains off.

Can you help?

Hi Bomilkar,

sorry, i have tried a lot but with legacy i could'nt enable VGA.

After testing the different images i decided to use Legacy Jessy Server.

I dismissed VGA and instead of that i helped myself with openssh on the CT and with putty on my windows-PC.

So a least i have a terminal.
