renky Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-one/ Is the armbian stretch system a free software system as defined by the free software foundation? Thanks.

Prebuilt images provided at armbian.com - no, because they contain non-free elements: firmware in /lib/firmware and non-free (but not essential for system operation) packages such as iozone3. Obviously those parts can be removed from an installed system at any time.
renky Posted June 15, 2018 Author Posted June 15, 2018 Thank you. Obviously those parts can be removed from an installed system at any time. Are you saying I can install armbian and then uninstall non free software from the orange pi one computer and the computer will still work? Is there a script which will uninstall the non free parts or is there a website you can display which tells how to do it? It is about installing freedombox.org on the orange pi one. Note I am not skilled on this matter. I have chosen the orange pi one computer because it is low priced. I want the installation to be a free software installation. https://wiki.debian.org/FreedomBox/Hardware/Debian
renky Posted October 23, 2018 Author Posted October 23, 2018 https://docs.armbian.com/ It says Quote Debian based distribution specialized for ARM developing boards. Compiled from scratch Is it a free software cf free software foundation debian system armbian makes use of? Then parts of non free software gets added before compilation? Maybe the only pieces of non free software which gets added are iozone3 armbian-firmware?
