OLEGIM Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Guys, help. I installed the armbian 21.08.1 Focal XFCE base image and ran it. Video over HDMI shows black screen. After the update, nothing has changed. I tried several actions that were written on the forum, but nothing helped. What steps need to be taken to fix this? armbian 21.08.1 Focal XFCE armbianmonitor -u http://ix.io/3E9k journalctl -p 3 -xe -- Logs begin at Fri 2021-11-05 22:16:31 UTC, end at Fri 2021-11-05 22:25:01 UTC. -- Nov 05 22:16:31 cubietruck kernel: sun4i-drm display-engine: attempt to add DMA range to existing map Nov 05 22:16:31 cubietruck kernel: debugfs: Directory '1c22c00.codec' with parent 'sun4i-codec' already present! CryBaby Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 I found I get a desktop if I install xserver-xorg-video-fbturbo. The performance is pretty poor though. Is this still the preferred option or has it been superceded? To answer my own question for the record: fbturbo uses ARM's mali blob for acceleration, which I don't have hence the poor performance. Recent xorg works with lima and doesn't need the blob. So the correct solution to this problem is to wait for xorg-server 21.0.99.1 or newer to become available in Armbian. 0 Quote

I installed from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-raspi2/+archive/ubuntu/ppa-nightly , still a black screen and a AIGLX error: sun4i-drm does not export required DRI extension error. Where did you get the xserver-xorg-video-fbturbo package from? 0 Quote
CryBaby Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 A simple sudo apt install. I had that error before I installed it, after I get AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable. I assume this would be fixed if I installed the mali blob. I still have the original X.Org X Server 1.20.11, maybe you have a different one? 0 Quote

Nico Verduin Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 I am not sure if this is the right post but I seem to have the same problem. I am trying to reinstall my Cubietruck 3 with this file : Armbian_21.08.1_Cubietruck_focal_current_5.10.60_xfce_desktop. It boots fine does everything according to the documentation, starts "starting desktop environment" and that was the last I saw. No doubt I am doing something wrong but being a CP/M, DOS, Windows guy I am not familiar with Linux.... Regards Nico (Netherlands) 0 Quote
CryBaby Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I just did a firmware update and got xorg 1.20.13 but it still does not work. Looks like we'll have a wait a bit longer for the next version. @Nico: if you Ctrl-Alt-F2 you will get a login prompt. Once logged in you can type sudo armbian-config and under System->Firmware do a full update. Try this once a week until things improve 0 Quote
Nico Verduin Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I installed the desktop and through ctrl-alt-F2 was able to exit back to the CLI. And all works fine again except for the desktop. I was wondering, I use an adapter to convert from HDMI to VGA. Could that be the cause? 0 Quote

CryBaby Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 The problem is a bug in the xserver, not your HDMI to VGA unit. The bug has been fixed but the fixed version has not yet reached the standard repos. Voka is offering a version of Armbian which includes the fix. That is a good option if you have not invested much effort in configuring your existing install. 0 Quote
Nico Verduin Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 I downloaded the files. There is an image 001 and 003 . The 003 is the patched version? For the rest it is still all clean installations so nothing is lost. I have 64Gb Class 10 SD card which is extremely fast so changing does not take too much time. 0 Quote
Nico Verduin Posted December 24, 2021 Posted December 24, 2021 It was image 001. WOrks like a charm. Will reinstall on a 64Gb class 10 sd and a 500Gb Hard disk. Next I will try to see if it works on a phoenix A20 (have 2 of those) Thanks again!!! 0 Quote

MemoryLeak Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 I got the same issue on my Cubietruck. With the official images, my TV even said there is no signal when the Cubietruck loads the Desktop. With the latest image provided by Voka, the signal seems to be there, but I still got a black screen, just like Josue Turco. After searching the net for the lima 1c40000.gpu: mmu page fault prints, I found a very similar issue in the mesa tracker: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/5707 . There was even a patch provided (by https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/dorna8550) that seems to fix the problem (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/uploads/64e8736c6a935e91a6547fd22f2051e6/0001-Modify-MBUS-Driver-to-get-Mali-working-on-Sunxi-A20.patch). Unfortunately I have not set up the build environment for creating an Image for the Cubietruck with that patch to test it. 0 Quote
MemoryLeak Posted January 8, 2023 Posted January 8, 2023 I set up the build environment, cloned the repository and placed the mentioned patch file in the user patches location: <git repo>/userpatches/kernel/archive/sunxi-5.15/0001-Modify-MBUS-Driver-to-get-Mali-working-on-Sunxi-A20.patch . After invoking the compile command (similar to Voka's suggestion, but without docker and less entries in DESKTOP_APPGROUPS_SELECTED) and some patience, I got an image for the Cubietruck that finally boots up with the xfce desktop on the TV that was attached via HDMI. 0 Quote
