Sorry, don't have the Armbianmonitor info handy but wanted to get this started...

I'm trying to bring up a Libre Renegade RK3328-CC for use as a media center. Armbian's performance is absolutely wonderful compared to the other builds I've tried on this box.

Unfortunately, I want the HDMI output going to a Samsung Frame TV, and resolution negotiation fails badly -- I get obvious rasters with black between them, nowhere near the 4K that this TV model is capable of and not even a smooth conversion (Note that the eyes here suggests that the black line is occurring every third raster or something like that...)

I understand that Armbian is an experimental build and this combination may simply not work.... but if there's anything I can try to do to help the driver and monitor reconcile with each other, or to help you debug this, please let me know.

(BTW, I don't mind the security timeout/rechecking on this webform, but having it drag focus back to that checkbox is somewhat disruptive.)

... Actually, when I just tried get-edid on Armbian, it told me it couldn't get that information. xrandr and such are showing unknown monitor type, with only one resolution offered. So it looks like the whole display-resolution-adjustment subsystem may be missing (or I may have stepped on it while trying to resolve this issue).

Any answers? Any questions? Any suggestions? I love Armbian's performance, but reasonable HDMI output (even if it isn't full 4K) on the TV is a sine qua non for this application.

There are many posts on similar topics in the forums.  The usual work around is to force the resolution via a kernel boot parameter.  Search the forums for other such discussions.

...Got it working with Debian (not armbian) if I controlled the power-on and connection order carefully. But the easier fix was to grab a used i3 desktop machine and install Ubuntu Studio into that, reserving the SBC for future projects.

 

It's amazing what SBCs can do... but if you don't need maximum compactness, minimum power draw, or direct hardware interfacing, sometimes using something better standardized/supported will be the winning choice.

 

Oh well. Only a small detour, and a few bucks that it turned out I didn't need to spend right now; not a disaster.
