I have a new Orange Pi 5 plus 16GB. Seems a pretty cool board and I want to replace my old Rpi 4 for Media center and Home assistant.

I tried several distribution but can't get all my stuff working.

The OPI5+ is attached to an onkio 5.1 receiver and the receiver go to a FHD TV.

What is want to achieve is

in Kodi

1. play video with GPU

2. libCec in Kodi to control Onkio volume

3. Passthrough audio

Is there a working solution?

Thank you

I don't think there is an oob solution.

Though using an Armbian image with mesa-vpu extension should give a solid base for video hw acceleration.

thanks guys

I am trying

Armbian_24.11.2_Orangepi5-plus_noble_vendor_6.1.75_kde-neon-kisak_desktop

kde is running with wayland

glmark2 is using panfrost driver

kodi worked with HW accell after installing mesa vulkan driver and enabling DRM Prime

I must run kodi with

KODI_AE_SINK=ALSA kodi

otherwise I don't have hdmi0 output. And kodi is running from kde with "-fs" flag

With alsamixer I changed the channel PATHs because channels are incorrent, my setup for 5.1 is PATH2-PATH0-PATH1 (I think PATH3 is not used, maybe it's for 7.1)

Now I am missing CEC connection. Maybe I can try with another kernel or some overlay?

How can I change only the kernel? maybe with the suggested 6.1.84?

To ease dependency maintenance, I've used the flatpak kodi on a different rk3588 SBC - works well, but surround sound is not something i've spent time on (i'm happy with stereo)

The only gotcha, is migrating your kodi settings to the flatpak storage location, which is a bit funky

~/.var/app/tv.kodi.Kodi/

See https://flathub.org/apps/tv.kodi.Kodi for install details

this results in the attached kodi startup log which you can inspect for the current configured capabilities:
kodi.log

I am using Kodi since years with armbian on orange pi 5 and also orange pi 5 plus. I followed instruction, installed armbian of august I think with the vendor kernel and the Wayland version. The Install come with all hardware video acceleration installed. Then simply install Kodi and configured it.

It is working great.

I also rebuilt kernel in order to have my satellite tuners working.

Great platform not too many issues.

Hi Tony3.

Could you please give me a link of the image?

My other attempt was with kernel 6.12, video is accelerated but I am missing hdmi0 audio output.

Gave a try to collab kernel -board freeze- and edge, same with current

thank you
