zital debian Posted yesterday at 06:10 PM Posted yesterday at 06:10 PM Hi, I'm using orange pi 5, and I noticed that I'm using 100Mb/s instead 1000Mb/s, i changed the cables that are working in another pc to a 1000Mb/s but still works to 100Mb/s, I changed to another kernel like 6.12.32-current-rockchip64 with no luck, any idea how to solve it? root@opi5 /home/pi# ethtool end0 Settings for end0: Supported ports: [ TP MII ] Supported link modes: 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Supported FEC modes: Not reported Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised FEC modes: Not reported Link partner advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full 100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full Link partner advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Link partner advertised FEC modes: Not reported Speed: 100Mb/s Duplex: Full Auto-negotiation: on master-slave cfg: preferred slave master-slave status: slave Port: Twisted Pair PHYAD: 1 Transceiver: external MDI-X: Unknown Supports Wake-on: ug Wake-on: d Current message level: 0x0000003f (63) drv probe link timer ifdown ifup Link detected: yes 0 Quote

eselarm Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago 40 minutes ago, zital debian said: but why with the same cable that is using 1000 in another pc in the same port? I have had various sorts of issues like this since there is twistedpair ethernet RJ45 (and more troubles with coax BNC). 'PC' is radically different hardware/chips than OPi5, in the end is is analog signals and simbols and channal coding, many leavels were 1 device can do or make slightly different decisions then another one. You only know if you debug kernel and also have dedicated equipment for testing ethernet. But a simple slight less conducting RJ45 pin connector 4 or 5 or 7 or 8 can already make the difference. Can be corrosion or so or not enough pressure in s certain (up or down) direction. Or RF interference difference between PC and OPi5 situation. Or GND connected or not. Or metal surroundings or not. I have made most Armbian installations multi-kernel bootable/selectable (serial console cable en extlinux.conf or GRUB when UEFI) so I would first do a temporary test boot with latest greatest mainline based kernel. It might also mean other U-Boot, I do not know details of OPi5, but my ROCK3A cannot work correct with every U-Boot an kernel combination (only Radxa U-Boot 2017 and Armbian vendor kernel 6.1.115). My ROCK5B is more flexable although if I want to use vendor 6.1.115 I also have to change setting in EDK2-UEFI v1.1 SPI bootloader that I am currently using/testing. And ROCK5B does not use on-chip GMAC ethernet, is has external RTL 2.5GbE chip. Maybe easiest to temporary boot with some fresh downloaded Armbian image on test SD-card and make sure also U-Boot is started from there. 0 Quote

zital debian Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago OK, I had the fan disconnected, I have connected the fan into gpio pins and reboot system, now is 1000Mb/s, and maybe is an GND issue as eselarm commented, thank you guys 0 Quote

djurny Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Hi @zital debian, Some things you could also try: Replace cables - again. I've had similar issues where the NIC of SBC would drop to 10Mbe half duplex, persistently after using different cables. In the end it was all the cables i had lying around that were not of good quality. Replaced the cat "5e" ones with cat 6 and the issues went away. Disable autoneg on your NIC or only advertise 1Gbe. Try a different switch port, switch or router. Check if you have some of those green options on your router/switch enabled, i think it's called EEE. I had some issues with and my Orangepi zero SBCs in combination with those bad cat "5e" ethernet cables. Groetjes, 0 Quote
