markus Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Hi, Just a quick question as Debian Stretch has been out for a while now: Will there be an official upgrade of ARMBIAN for the Cubietruck (Cubieboard 3) at some point or is there a simple doc on how to upgrade the distribution? I run ARMBIAN with the legacy kernel (3.4.113-sun7i). Everything required for the system boot is in the NAND while the root and /home partitions are on the sdd. Would it be possible to upgrade to Stretch just by replacing the version name in the sources.list file? If there won't be any automated ARMBIAN upgrades to Stretch for this device. Would you recommend using the official Debian distribution (and booting from a micro-SD-card instead from the NAND)? Thanks in advance for your advice.
Igor Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Not possible. Stretch need a more recent kernel and on this recent kernel, there is no NAND support. 1 hour ago, markus said: Would you recommend using the official Debian distribution If you want (much) worse support, yes. I recommend you to wait for release - few days ahead - or do some testing with nightlies too see what you can expect: https://dl.armbian.com/cubietruck/Debian_stretch_next_desktop_nightly.7z https://dl.armbian.com/cubietruck/Debian_stretch_next_nightly.7z In any case, use some modern SD card.
markus Posted November 22, 2017 Author Posted November 22, 2017 Thanks for the information (and for keeping up your excellent work on this distribution). No problem about the wait time for the stable release. I'm sure it'll be worth it. Also thanks for the explanation on the supported SD cards.
