pzread Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) I am trying to setup a 5ghz access point on D-Link DWA-171(according to wikidevi, it's 8811au) + NanoPI NEO PLUS2. I use the testing armbian image with latest update. The hostapd can enable the 802.11a 5ghz AP mode with ht_enabled (but it says this chip doesn't support 802.11ac) I can see the SSID shows in the phone. If I try to connect it, it will fail and says the station is out of range. When the phone is trying to connect this AP, hostapd doesn't output any connection log even in debug mode. Also, although I set the channel to 40, the WIFI analyzer on the phone shows it is using 38. dmesg Spoiler [ 2.672751] usb usb9: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0002 [ 2.672760] usb usb9: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1 [ 2.672765] usb usb9: Product: MUSB HDRC host driver [ 2.672771] usb usb9: Manufacturer: Linux 4.14.8-sunxi64 musb-hcd [ 2.672776] usb usb9: SerialNumber: musb-hdrc.1.auto [ 2.673347] hub 9-0:1.0: USB hub found [ 2.673394] hub 9-0:1.0: 1 port detected [ 2.785412] usb 5-1: New USB device found, idVendor=2001, idProduct=3314 [ 2.785430] usb 5-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [ 2.785441] usb 5-1: Product: 802.11n WLAN Adapter [ 2.785452] usb 5-1: Manufacturer: Realtek [ 2.785462] usb 5-1: SerialNumber: 00e04c000001 ... pzread Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Still same. Can see the SSID but can not connect it. And there is no connection log by hostapd. Also, my laptop (marvell wireless card) can't see the SSID, but several smartphones can. May I know which WIFI 8811au dongle do you use? Maybe I can get the same one. I changed the country_code=TW. But neither US nor TW works. DHCP must be configured within your subnet or you can create a bridge and use DHCP server from your router. From logs, I can see that hostapd is configured properly and it is working in AC mode. Quote Also, my laptop (marvell wireless card) can't see the SSID, but several smartphones can. But is 5Ghz capable? This probably means that you need to choose some other channel. IIRC not all wireless cards can make use of the complete band.
pzread Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 I can see other APs on that channel so maybe my laptop is OK. Tried this driver (https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8812au) on my x86 laptop and the result is same. Can see SSID on phones but can't connect it. I think my DHCP server is configured correctly. And because there is no connection log on hostapd, I think the problem is in the driver or device. BTW, 2.4Ghz AP mode works correctly
