tiparali Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 (edited) I would like to install a small mpd server (Music Player Daemon) that would read files from a usb disk, stream webradios and possibly be controlled by ir. What is the most lightweight and cheapest board that would exist and could do that ? The orange pi zero with an extension board or a usb audio card would have been perfect, but I read several posts about the lack of software updates and the never resolved kernel issues. How bad is it really ? And then what else would do the job? Edited February 24, 2018 by Tido TLA extended (Three Letter Acronym)
TonyMac32 Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 http://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=151 add the I2S DAC (has IR on it) and you should be able to make that work. If you don't need wireless the nanoPi Neo is cheaper and also has the same DAC+IR addon. I use that for exactly that purpose (I don't use the IR though) You can go without the DAC and use the onboard audio as well, you'll just have to add an IR somewhere.
tiparali Posted February 24, 2018 Author Posted February 24, 2018 Thanks for your answer ! The nanopi neo is also available on aliexpress, I'll look into it.
Da Alchemist Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 The OrangePI Pc 15$ + a cheap I2s Dac, or the Orange Pi PC Plus ,22$,with 8 Gb EMMC an WIFI would be my favourites. Regards

TonyMac32 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 see here http://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=169Yep, that's the one. I followed Da Alchemists instructions for the orange pi on the nanopi neo with success, made a how-to on my blog. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk
tiparali Posted February 26, 2018 Author Posted February 26, 2018 I finally bought an orange pi pc plus. Standard audio output will surely not be the best but that will be a first try for me with those mini arm machines. I prefer to have something already plug and play for my first baby steps. 1
