@Igor

Successfully installed by following your command.

However, after a reboot, it still enters TEXT mode by default. What's more, startx brings me the following ERROR message: Failed to load module "fbdev"

Fatal server error:

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support

Any further suggestions?

Cheers

apt purge nodm lightdm
apt install nodm

Check /etc/default/nodm if it's enable and if a user is your normal user, not root ... in case you don't have a normal user, create one before starting.

Fail to startx...

I didn't say startx will work. X is started by display manager ...  do:

service nodm status

and observe what kind of errors do you see. Did you made "bananapipro" user on your own or with our welcome 1st run script?

You must have break something ... I made the actual test with exact those steps:

1. Downloaded this https://dl.armbian.com/bananapipro/Ubuntu_bionic_next.7z, created a user at first login script,

2. armbian-config -> system -> install desktop with a browser ... 10 minutes later I have a running desktop, reboot, the desktop comes up automatically

3. Those are logs: http://ix.io/1mgE
