DrSchottky Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Hi all, I'm doing experiments with WiFi monitor mode on AP6212(bcm43430)-based boards with nexmon (driver/fw patching framework for wifi monitor mode). I tried it on OPi Zero Plus 2 (Kernel 4.14) and it works pretty much "out of the box", but sometime crashes. I'm still investigating about it, since the same fw+driver work flawlessy on RPi Is there anyone else who played around with it? 0 Quote

Did you had a luck on solving the issue? Thanks. 0 Quote
VastGsm Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Any further updates on this project with OPi Zero Plus 2? I recently discovered a post on Reddit where they have had some success at running pwny on Banana Pi M2 Zero running Armbian Focal. With external mtk wifi. Admittedly, they are using an external WiFi adapter. Hopefully we may see a downloadable image available for further testing soon. Here's a link to the post on Reddit. 0 Quote

Many of those onboard WiFi chips has drivers in a complete sh* state - which is read as "cheap hw with almost no vendor support". Maintaining things as such is a lot more difficult and expensive. We could drive this wireless section better only with a few full time WiFi radio specialists, but project can't afford that. With what Armbian have, it already have a class better support then Kali Linux, which is a dominant name in "hacking" WiFi: Quote Armbian support for wifi adapters is far superior to raspbian/kali. This is what author wrote there 😇 and I am happy he noticed this. 3 hours ago, VastGsm said: Any further updates on this project with OPi Zero Plus 2 I am not aware anything is happening in this regard, but its possible, look around ... 0 Quote
Werner Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Maybe we should issue a general warning about bad quality WiFi to the download page of all boards with built-in WiFi that "we do our best to make them as functional as possible but cannot help much with issues due to commonly bad quality hw" or something if not there already. 0 Quote
Dal Brin Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Just to let you know I am the author of the reddit thread. And yes noticing the superior WiFi support did not take long, I have collected approximately 20 different WiFi chipsets/adapters trying to find adapters supported on later images of Pwnagotchi. Resulting in nothing but total failure. Around half of those adapters work in Armbian (with monitor mode) without any interaction from myself. I do indeed have a working image that a few people are testing and reporting good results with. It's taken a long time to get it to this state, so a couple more weeks of testing shouldn't be too much hold up. I am also in contact with DrSchottky who is one of the maintainers of Nexmon. Who is of the opinion that Nexmon should and will work as well as it does on the Raspberry Pi (in fact better as we have an external antenna). Once I get around to spending some more time on the project. He has had it installed and working on the M2 Zero. The last piece of the puzzle will be getting the screens working over the GPIO, but that will likely require someone with better knowledge of such things than myself, as the drop in replacement RPi.GPIO library didn't seem to work. 1 Quote
Dal Brin Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Just a little update. We do have Nexmon running on a Banana Pi M2 Zero and injecting, the issues we have are when swapping the original module out. But we shall get there. We do also have Pwnagotchi running on many more boards with external wifi (opi zero lts, opi zero 2, nano pi neo, nano pi duo2, banana pi m2 zero). If anyone wants early test images feel free to message me or leave a note here. 0 Quote
