  1. Thanks i i've read quite some posts about this device, among others: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s905/others-ac/568877-any-thoughts-on-this-box-mxq-pro/page6 It looks like the GbE is crippled in Android, OE and Linux so i have no hope here. I will try to flash it to the SD-Robots firmware to see if it's usable with Android + WiFi. Possibly also LE if i get some time. Otherwise i'm gonna demand refund for this!
  2. Thanks @Shimonfor pointing out. My hope was to use it as Linux box, but if the GbE is not working, then i can't really. If things work more stable in Android, i could be forced to use it actually. I tried to Google for the firmware, but i find none that supports 2G/16G + GbE. If you bother: can you give me a link? Much appreciated. If we can actually make this box useful, it could be a good value for those $33. Thanks.
  3. I see @mdel. This box comes with old Android 5.1 and IIRC, the LAN showed 100Mbit, but i need to check this again as i also had issues in Android, when i think back. Network didn't work using LAN actually. So it could actually be an issue with the LAN port. Didn't even know iperf existed for Android, will definitely test with iperf. Yes, i use 4.14rc2_next images from @balbes150, while @Shimon mentioned he has tested with 3.14 kernel. My intention was to get a $33 S905 box with 2G/16G + GbE. But this box looks bad so far
  4. @balbes150 if you want, i can buy this box for you so you can develop further. I can order it direct to your address, PM me your name + address. This box has got S905 (not S905x) 2G/16G and 1gbit LAN. I tried with meson-gxbb-odroidc2.dtb, it boots, USB works and 1gbit just is unstable. I suspect the LAN driver is wrong with Armbian_5.32_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_4.14.0-rc2-next-20170929_server.img.xz from https://yadi.sk/d/pHxaRAs-tZiei/Test I can setup all fine with the device conneced to my TV using terminal direct login, but when i try to SSH into the box, i can't get in. It hangs sometimes before and after the password typing.
  5. I just got myself an S905 box with a strange name, but it's likely an H96 Plus 4K aka MXQ MXQ Pro+ with 2G/16G and 1GbE, SD card reader rather than microSD card reader. I am able to boot an older server image from August with 4.13 kernel, but there is no USB. It's when i use nextbox DTB. The other DTBs i've tried fail with mounting rootfs. What image should i try? I'd like to have a server/headless image as well as a desktop, if possible. Thanks.
  6. To avoid having the CPU being heavily loaded by using some simple apps with GUI. And with H96Pro+ S912 the desktop feels slow in all aspects. But using it as headless, i'm very satiesfied though. Now i've ordered H96 Plus with S905/2G/16G + 1GbE which costs ~ 1/half of S912 boxes. I wonder if that might make up for a lightweight desktop. @debianxfce, thx. I'll give yours image a try on H96 plus S905 when it arrives.
  7. With many users here in this forum owning different SoCs, dev boards and TV boxes, i wonder which one would be recommended to be used as a simple desktop with HW support for GUI. I have one S905 in my mind, but not sure if mali-450 is supported with balbes150 images.
  8. How do i get my H96Pro+ to work with a DVI monitor (it works fine with our Samsung TV, HDMI input)? I've tried to with HDMI-to-DVI adapter (this could be opposite adapter not sure), no signals on the monitor. Do i need active HDMI-to-DVI adapter? Will any Orange Pi H3 or H5 boards have the same issues too? I'm planning to buy an Orange Pi board that has accelerated X11/GUI so that i can use it as a simple desktop, mainly to access my KVM VM over SPICE protocol.
  9. Looking forward to the first Orange Pi H6 board. If Xunlong enables us to use such an mPCIe Marvell SATA adapter, that would really rock!
  10. @tkaiser, that just crashed my H96Pro+ remote at home. Let's see if can run this while i'm closer to it
  11. Disclamier: i'm a total n00b on this! Reminds me of when i tried to boot my H96Pro+ with "not one of the correct" DTB, all i saw was a red light and nothing on the screen. Could be something similar. If it's not booting Android from the eMMC, it's a good sign that it tries to boot from SD card? But if the SD card reader is NOT on sdio0, then bummer
  12. @srx: that button behind one of the audio jack is the reset button as @exquisitus points out. At least on my H96Pro+, it must be pressed inside while powering up in order to activate boot from mSDcard reader. Yet another one Beelink A1 RK3328. Compared to A5X MAX (which i've and not yet unboxed at home), it also has 1GbE Question is if we can run Linux on it.
  13. After a reboot of the box: root@amlogic:~# for i in {0..7};do cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu$i/cpufreq/scaling_governor;done cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu4/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu5/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu6/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory cat: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu7/cpufreq/scaling_governor: No such file or directory I can't see cpufreq module to load, hmm. 14. @Jens Bauer Sure, i'd have loved to put a bigger heatsink and a small fan, if that helps to achieve higher speeds. But now as @tkaiser mentions it, i can recall the Amlogic cheating revelations i read at CNX-soft thoug! Here is what i got from StabilityTester: Done testing stability by using both ondemand and performance scaling governors: Frequency: 667000 Voltage: 3300000 Success: 1 Result: 0.0048034 Frequency: 1000000 Voltage: 3300000 Success: 1 Result: 0.0048034 Frequency: 1200000 Voltage: 3300000 Success: 1 Result: 0.0048034 Although the thermal readings doesn't work on this box: Testing frequency 1200000 Soc temp:cat: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp: No such file or directory Soc temp: CPU Freq: 1200000 CPU Core: 3300000 cat: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp: No such file or directory Soc temp: CPU Freq: 1200000 CPU Core: 3300000 cat: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp: No such file or directory Anyway, i guess i'm also subject to their cheating since i can get max 1.2Ghz even with all small cores disabled.
  15. Yep When all cores enabled, it's 4 x 1.512Ghz + 4 x 1Ggz according to lshw -c cpu. root@amlogic:~# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies 100000 250000 500000 667000 1000000 1200000 1512000 root@amlogic:~# I've only seen big cores at 1512Mhz even when i disable the small 4 cores. How can we get 2Ghz?
  16. I'm also testing tightvncserver and there are issues with LXDE. Mate-session works, but it can't automatically resize screen size. Also, when i used the box as a vncviewer, the resizing doesn't work, i get a black area at bottom for instance when i choose full screen. I'd like to use one of the boxes as a vnc/spice client and another as a server
  17. Since i got a couple of S905X boxes at home, i gave Nexbox A95X S905X a try, boots with multiple DTB, but only meson-gxbb-nexbox-a95x.dtb seems to be able to boot into ldm/mate. But there is no response from USB mouse nor keyboard. As USB is supported now, what could this be? EDIT: images being tested are from 20170907.
  18. Is anyone running Docker aarch64/arm64v8 images on this? I'm able to run armhf/arm32v7 images, but all the arm64v8 images crash. According to 'uname' it's 64-bits kernel so i wonder what the issue is with the Docker.
  19. If possible, please upload the latest image here: https://my.owndrive.com/index.php/s/vNynzw9pk5fIYhT
  20. I can't get your updated image @balbes150 since Yandex Disk seems to have issues
  21. Awesome! Will try this tonight already! Another question: every time i upgrade, i loose the full setup i have on my SD card? Now that i've installed Docker, LXC etc i'd like to avoid it.
  22. Copy to SD card? You mean extracting the image onto an SD card i.e using e.g dd? Here is what i did: 1. I downloaded your image from that YT video link 2. xz -d <imagename>.img.xz 3. dd if=<imagename>.img of=/dev/sdc bs=16M oflag=direct 5. Copied the correct dtb.img to the root of /BOOT 4. Took the SD card out of my USB adapter and inserted into H96 Pro+ 5. Booted up to see the H96 initial image, then to loose the output on HDMI/TV.
  23. Is this SW accelerated X? Do you have a link so that i can give it a try as well?
  24. i have 2 of these boxes and my ultimate goal is to use one as a thin client to connect to a Spice server and another as a headless server. but i've read there is no Mali driver avail. i could NOT boot with https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ujnYBvMQfjM
