  1. They all seem pretty fast and stable at the moment so I don't tinker with them much now. My current pet project is an MX10 with the fast dtb. It has RK3328 with 4Gb ram. Pretty quick on the desktop, only problem is cpu temp hits 100 degrees under full load. Thinking of swapping a bigger heatsink in because I would really like to avoid active cooling.
  2. Thanks. They are all under 25USD when I got them on sale 1. T95Z Plus 3Gb 2. TX9 Pro 3Gb 3. BM8 Pro 2Gb all running off sdcard. Didn't want to risk bricking them by installing to eMMC Maybe I'll try the Phoronix Benchmark Suite one of these days
  3. My S912's running Armbian_5.75_Aml-s912_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.20.5_desktop_20190211 1. T95Z Plus 2. TX9 Pro 3. BM8 Pro and yeah, smooth desktop

sudo stress --cpu 8 --timeout 3600 Lets go look for a bigger/copper heatsink and an open case - trying hard to avoid active cooling :-) I've hit peaks of 100 degrees and it still keeps on going. I guess I've shortened the life quite a bit. From spec sheet max operating temp is 125 degrees!

With the board totally out of the casing, a more reasobable Cpu Temp at full load. Let's mod the casing with more air-holes and see what happens

Is it safe without any cooling mods or do I need to install a fan?

I got mine running by following this

    Armbian for Amlogic S9xxx kernel 4.1x (>= ver 5.55)

Intalled https://yadi.sk/d/pHxaRAs-tZiei/5.75/S912 Going great so far, eth & sound, no wlan, usb drive somewhat unreliable Got nodejs nightmare running as well

Not quite, no sound with that one :-(

After an update, X segfaults after a while running 5.73 Seems that its a tv fault. Switching to a different TV cured it. Still with weird screen blanking, using meson-gxbb-p201.dtb from 5.60 is better

5.73 does this as well. 5.60 is ok

Armbian_5.74_Aml-s905_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.20.5_desktop_20190304.img on S11 meson-gxbb-p201.dtb hdmi screen turns black after a few minutes running, box still accesible via ssh. Possible to get screen back on but not sure on exact sequence (turn display off-on, disconnect-connect hdmi cable etc). armbianmonitor gives some weird temperature figure Time CPU load %cpu %sys %usr %nice %io %irq CPU 01:17:26: 1752MHz 0.77 18% 3% 14% 0% 0% 0% 4294967295.0°C

Is there a reason why preload is not installed and activated in our images? All the tweaking guides recommend it.

Ok thanks for the feedback. I think I'll give the rk3328 path a rest now and just use the s912 boxes I have, their performance with 5.72 is very usable.

Any improvement on the responsiveness of the desktop?

Oops my bad, p201 it is then. All good now :-) The box turns off after a few minutes of activity. Perhaps heat or segfault?

Yes I searched the forum for T9 but came up empty. Somehow I stumbled upon the post about SD+USB. That way I've gotten it to boot Armbian_5.72_Rk3328-tv_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.154_desktop_20190123 but no eth0. I'll dig around rk3328-t9-android.dtb & see what I can find

Anyone got the T9 https://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_009675791724.html working? The is a rk3328-t9-android.dtb, it doesn't work. The others I've tried couldn't find ROOTFS during boot.

So that I can enjoy the speed of emmc without going thru the hassle & uncertainty of actually installing :-)

    Here's what I have: mmcblk1 179:0 0 29.8G 0 disk ├─mmcblk1p1 179:1 0 128M 0 part /boot └─mmcblk1p2 179:2 0 29.4G 0 part / mmcblk0 179:32 0 29.1G 0 disk mmcblk0boot0 179:64 0 4M 1 disk mmcblk0boot1 179:96 0 4M 1 disk mmcblk0rpmb 179:128 0 4M 0 disk Here's what I want to do: 1. use dd to copy mmcblk1p2 to mmcblk0 2. change label of mmcblk1p2 to something other than ROOTFS 3. reboot / should be running off mmcblk0 now. What do you guys think?
