Solved BananaPi Pro Debian Wheezy Kernel 3.4.108 Wifi problem

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have installed Igors Debian Wheezy Kernel 3.4.108 image on SD-Card for my BananaPi Pro.

All is fine, thanks Igor! (after changing to Sandisk)

But I can't activate the onboard Wifi-module.

sudo modprobe ap6210 brings error: FATAL: Module ap6210 not found

I tried a lot of thinks, but no result:

root@bananapi:~# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
cpufreq_userspace       3524  0
bnep                   14462  2
bluetooth             264185  7 bnep
brcmfmac               96909  0
brcmutil                4800  1 brcmfmac
spidev                  6366  0

I can activate the Lemaker 5'' touchscreen an the I2S-Audio in the script.bin-file, but no Wifi-module! I need all of this for my project and it's written it should work on Igors site:

http://www.igorpecovnik.com/2014/09/07/banana-pi-debian-sd-image/

What should I do?

Please help!

Thanks!

Andi

Hi Igor!

This is also not working:

root@bananapi:~# sudo modprobe bcmdhd
ERROR: could not insert 'bcmdhd': No such device

It seems I have to activate this, but where?

Thanks!

Andi

Yes, I think so:

root@bananapi:~# uname -a
Linux bananapi 3.4.108-banana #16 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 26 06:29:23 CEST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux

But I tried to load this module and this is possible, but no Wifi can activate. See in my first post.

Aha, are you using correct script bin?

Is this in place?

[sdio_wifi_pro_para]
sdio_wifi_pro_used = 1
sdio_wifi_pro_sdc_id = 3
sdio_wifi_pro_mod_sel = 7
ap6xxx_wl_regon = port:PH22<1><default><default><0>
ap6xxx_wl_vdd_en = port:PH27<1><default><default><0>

[usb_wifi_para]
usb_wifi_used = 1
usb_wifi_usbc_num = 2

Do a test with latest build on a separate SD card with only Wifi enabled. Perhaps on board wifi doesn't work together with LCD / I2S ? It's possible.

Yes, it seems.

I renamed the bananapipro.bin to script.bin an copied in the boot-directory. I tried a lot...

;-)

Thanks!

Andi

I have to go working now. Maybe more in the evening.? Thanks!

We'll get to the bottom of this somehow ;)

Sadly I don't have Banana PRO around to recreate exact scenario, only the original one.

Until later.

Igor, thanks!

How can I help? At first I can buy one or two SD-cards more today for testing.

Sorry because my English is not so well und I'm a linux newbie!

Just do thing step by step. One thing at the time to find out where is the problem.

Hi Igor!

What's the next step?

:unsure:

Start with brand new image and without any additional hardware. Switch configuration from banana to bananapro, reboot, load wifi driver.

Than proceed with adding hardware and functionality.

Ok. I want to do it correct. How should I switch the configuration? I'm not realy sure. Sorry!

Rename and save the script.bin in \boot, take the bananapipro.bin from \boot\bin and copy as script.bin to \boot ?

With re-linking.

ln -sf /boot/bin/bananapipro.bin /boot/script.bin

Ok., I have done this. First and second booting seems ok. I had changed the root password, re-linked and rebooted.

And now I have this:

Load: 0.44, 0.27, 0.11 - Board: 41.1°C - Memory: 959Mb

root@bananapi:~# sudo modprobe bcmdhd

Sorry. Sorry that I haven't figured out before. :o  :(  :angry:

You need to load all those modules and they should be present by default. If not ... bug.

hci_uart
gpio_sunxi
bt_gpio
wifi_gpio
rfcomm
hidp
sunxi-ir
bonding
spi_sun7i
bcmdhd

You can leave out some non related ...

Than it MUST work ;)

Should I load the other modules by hand with modprobe?

Hi Igor!

Just use suggested /etc/modules list and I am pretty sure it will work.

You are missing:
wifi_gpio
bcmdhd

Sorry, but bcmdhd is a problem:

None.

Leave bcmdhd with /etc/modules and please provide full boot log. Maybe we could see something odd there.

Change loglevel=1 to 9 in boot.cmd too.

Hello Igor!

That sounds not so positive.

I have to prepare an UART-cable-connection to my PC to log the full boot sequence, right? Ok., I can do that. So I can save the UART-output into a txt-file. That's it?

How can I change the loglevel in boot.cmd? Is it a text-file, or with a linux command?

Sorry, I'm not at home and the BPro isn't here. I'm busy until tommorow evening.

Thanks!
A.

Yes, just post full boot sequence.

edit /boot/boot.cmd

alter loglevel and console=ttyS0,115000

save and convert

mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d /boot/boot.cmd /boot/boot.scr

Take your time. No rush.

Hello Igor!

I'm back! ;)

I catured the boot log in different kinds. I think the last one (V3) is the best, because editing "console=tty1" to "console=ttyS0,115000" produced a lot of rabbish in the terminal window. So I changed the loglevel from 1 to 9.

Sorry! It seems, I pressed a false key on the keyboard.?

Ok., that's the log. The last lines can be the result of KVM-switching to the pc.

Is this helpful?

Thanks!

A.

I guess the problem emerge because we removed the duplicate driver (Lemaker's) from the source. Now FEX need some adaptations. I hope I do it correctly (if not there are few combinations to tests):

- edit bananapro.fex and remove sections:

[sdio_wifi_pro_para]

[usb_wifi_para]

than add this:

[wifi_para]
wifi_used          = 1
wifi_sdc_id        = 3
wifi_mod_sel       = 7
wifi_power         = ""
ap6xxx_wl_regon      = port:PH22<1><default><default><0>
ap6xxx_wl_vdd_wn   = port:PH27<1><default><default><0>

[usb_wifi_para]
usb_wifi_used = 0
usb_wifi_usbc_num = 2

Hard step: we need to double check GPIO numbers and get this done trough FEX configuration. It should work but I don't know why it's not working.

Easy step: add apxxx driver back to source and recompile the kernel.

Necessary step: try wifi with some other / stock / older image that we can rule out hardware defects.
