faxe2110
Hallo, today i was getting my Mxqpro 4K 5G with RK3229 from Aliexpress, the same like @armbianorange2hero. I tried to boot the Multitool from the SD Card after i flashed it to the SD Card with Etcher but nothing is happen. Also tried a second SD Card but still no booting from SD. It just go to the installed GUI. Is it necessary that there is a img. in the image map or should the Multitool also boot without an added img?? What am i missing? Vittorio Mori
Just to let you know, and maybe give you some inspiration: playing with OpenWRT on this device (see my post), I've discovered that now there's support for LXC containers. So I installed a Debian-bullseye minimal rootfs as a LXC container in the device and now I run a pi-hole in it. So I get the router part via OpenWRT and the adblocker + a very fast and reliable dns/dhcp w/pihole together in the same device. Indeed very cool, with a $9 device, also quite fast. I'm amazed.
faxe2110
Hey, well i found the issue. Inside the Box is NOT a RK3229 but a AMLogic S805 on a m201C_AP Board. After i knew that, it was more a "easy" to run Armbian on that device. Right now i´m running Debian Buster on a 128GB SD and it seems to running well. But is there a way to get it on the intern flash?? I think this will not be the right place for asking that in this post. So if anyone has a link inside the Forum it will be amazing. I will also search by my own. @Vittorio Mori nice i will take a look at it thanks for the hint. Edited August 24, 2022 by faxe2110

Seth
hello again. i downloaded the current 5.15.61 sid build on github for rk322x and tried it on my box which has rtl8723cs chip. the chip is detected by rk322x-config but no wireless interface is shown when i do ip link. looking at dmesg i get dmesg grep rtl8723cs output [ 9.848405] RTL871X: rtl8723cs v4.3.22.9_16440.20151221_BTCOEX20151214-0700 [ 9.848426] RTL871X: rtl8723cs BT-Coex version = BTCOEX20151214-0700 [ 9.848950] rtl8723cs: probe of mmc1:0001:1 failed with error -110 dmesg cfg80211 [ 2.404787] cfg80211: Loading compiled-in X.509 certificates for regulatory database [ 2.451272] cfg80211: Loaded X.509 cert 'sforshee: 00b28ddf47aef9cea7' [ 2.462651] cfg80211: loaded regulatory.db is malformed or signature is missing/invalid i have scishion v88 mini which has NAND so i used multitool to install jumpstart nand and it booted to the sd card. went through all the config just fine except for the wireless. i also attached the complete dmesg log. anyways, i am going to try out 5.15.25 bullseye build from this thread to see if it is going to work. it did work fine with the legacy build though. edit same error with 5.15.25 build. dmesg.log Edited August 25, 2022 by Seth
ninh
I'm having a weird board. Chip label is RK3228A, with 8GB eMMC from SKhynix. Multitool doesn't booting up. In maskrom mode, chip shows as RK3128 and flash 4gb from samsung. Looking at the USB vendor and device IDs, your chip is not a rk3228a but an rk3128. You may say "But the chip is labelled rk3228a!": there have been past evidences that labels on the chip have been manipulated; I remember a case of a user were the chip was an rk3228a but the label was "Amlogic S905W". rk3128 in different unsupported chip.
Basement
I have been reading this forum, googling, and tinkering for a week or so and I am still having trouble with RAM. Android shows 2GB but in armbian I can only see 1GB. I have used the compiler found here, made sure HIGHMEM was enabled in kernel options, but I still only have 1GB. I feel like it is something obvious that I am overlooking, but can someone help me out?

Basement
Hi RaptorSDS. Thanks for the quick reply. I had used several apps, ran "free" in a terminal, and all showed 2GB. In all of those cases it was shown that a little over 1GB was in use, maybe 1200 or so. I think what you are suggesting is that what is being shown in android is a lie, and I expect you are correct. Can you suggest a more reliable way to check this in linux and/or android? jock
@Seth Your issue is due to the low pin strength used for GPIO, in some earlier tests I found that lower pin strength for wifi increased overall stability so it is set that way by default, but probably the stability issues were caused by something else. I should set them back to default values. Anyway you should tell what is the real board in your scishion v88 box, as far as I remember, there were some chiptrip mx4vr or something like that into...
fukowaka
Hello there! I succesfully burn @jock Armbian_22.02.0-trunk_Rk322x-box_bullseye_legacy_4.4.194_minimal on emmc chip. Boots OK but im stuck on emmc optimization options after running rk322x-config command. The memory chip is a samsung KMVUS000LA-B304 8gb. The processor is rk3229 (I think... its under a heatsink...) This tv box is selled here in Argentina as Noga tv box. Im really excited with this project. Thanks to all people involved! Im posting some pictures, maybe can help someone else. pd: how important are emmc optimization options? can i go on without configuring this? thk again

Seth
@fukowaka hello, congrats for successful install. emmc optimization is only really to squeeze more performance out of the hardware if it supports it. since our tv boxes are literally frankenstein's monters and are put together from probably used parts or even re-labeled chips, i tend to stick with the the defaults and get it working first to see if it would fit my use case. the default speed of the emmc is already way faster than an sd card i wouldn't worry about it and go with the defaults.
Seth
this arrived about 5 minutes ago, "out of the box and into the fire pit". board id is MXQ_8058201_v1.3. seems i got an emcp. it came in with the wifi sdio shield removed, i'm guessing they changed the inductor on the lower left of the pic and didn't bother putting the emi shield back on. it's a broadcom 4336 chip the uart is very accessible. will edit later for further findings. https://photos.app.goo.gl/48jMUW5LP239yZdbA Edited August 31, 2022 by Seth added photos.
jock
@fukowaka glad to hear your board works fine. I suggest you to use a mainline kernel if you don't have a NAND, the kernel is way more up to date. Legacy kernel builds are very old and I just keep them for people with NAND boards. The eMMC tuning options (which obviously applies only to boards with eMMC/eMCP and not NAND) can give a consistent boost to eMMC throughput, but your mileage may vary.
orojasp
Hi Pals, This is my first post here. My approach on armbian has been a little bit complicated but always read this thread. I have a tv box with an r3228a on it. I'm not totally sure because I didn't perform an test using hexdump as described before, but is one of things I have to do. In the next posts I'm going to tell you what test I've done and which others I'm failing, but this first one is mainly to thanks you for all this information and hard work you put freely to public use. Just trying to run armbian on this box I've learnt a lot! There are many hours of fun and mainly learning (I'm a terrible linux user) to try to give a new use to this little box. see you! Thanks again!!
Eliel Prado
Hi @jock, I'm having some issues with my Rockchip 3229 TV box. It has 3GB of DDR3 ram, 4GB of NAND memory. All images I tested including Multitool, LibreElec, Armbian crash after a few seconds. It freezes between 30 and 60 seconds. Sometimes after the system finishes booting, sometimes at boot (if the boot process takes longer, like on first boot). It doesn't matter if I'm using an image that uses a minimal interface or with a graphical environment, it turns on the led flashes and after locking the led it stops and remains on, and usually generates some noise in the debug port. I'll leave the boot debug logs, it's not a power source problem because I tested it with 3 others, and I also tested it on another tv box of the same model, and it had the same behavior. fukowaka
Hello people! Reporting me here. Yesterday i succesfully boots legacy version of @jock images. He told me try to boot current versions from the mainline. Tried... rk322x-box jammy current cli 286.66 Mb kernel 5.15.63 rk322x-box jammy current xfce 723.94 Mb kernel 5.15.63 rk322x-box sid current cli 341.22 Mb kernel 5.15.63 rk322x-box sid current xfce 627.60 Mb kernel 5.15.63 Also tried Armbian_22.05.0-trunk_Rk322x-box_bullseye_current_5.15.25_minimal.img made by @jock One by one burned into the emmc. Starts booting like for 5 seconds then reboots. Last i can read is "tty2" then reboots again, endlesly Anyone know what could be happening? What can i do? Im with rk3229 1gb ram, 8 gb samsung emmc model KMVUS000LA B304. Wifi chip model: SV6051P thanks again
fukowaka
@Eliel Prado what kernel are you trying to boot? You should try some legacy kernel, just to see if works. https://users.armbian.com/jock/rk322x/armbian/stable/ the first one works for me. Also you can check this tutorial from a brazilian dude with nand memory.
Eliel Prado
@fukowaka I tried these images: Photo But none does not crash. Even the multitool, I couldn't do a backup because it would take more than 30~60 seconds to do that. Any image I try, none works for more than a minute. I'm Brazilian and I followed this video tutorial, I even tried to compile an image, but so far nothing. I'm booting from the SD card, because the way things are, it wouldn't be possible to install on NAND through the multitool. There doesn't seem to be any hints in these debug lines. jock
13 hours ago, Eliel Prado said: I'm having some issues with my Rockchip 3229 TV box. It has 3GB of DDR3 ram, 4GB of NAND memory. This makes me think you have some fake specs: rk322x cannot address more than 2GB of RAM and 4GB NANDs are pretty uncommon - never seen any rk322x with that amount of flash memory. Looking at the log dump I see 1Gb of RAM for your board. Anyway I don't understand why you are such an old image from 2020...
fukowaka
i dont know how to extract the log from de emmc so i film the boot process. Any idea?
Eliel Prado
@jock In fact I tested it on over 15 images. I started from the current ones, going to the older ones. This was just one of the boot logs I took. I'll try to see if it really has 3 gb of ram, at least on Android it said that. But I confirmed that the datasheet would only go up to 2gb.
fukowaka
i went back to 4.4 kernel. desktop version perfermance is similar to rpi3b+. Neil Wolfkid
Hello! I'm new at this "linux-on-esoteric-arm-devices" thing (I literally just made an account) and I tried to install this version of armbian provided on this post onto a cheap "MXQ Pro 4K 5G" TV Box (weird name, i know) . Everything works phenomenal, but it seems like there's zero hardware acceleration (glxinfo says i'm using llvmpipe as my gpu driver and everything GUI is unendingly sluggish), I also tried to use apt-get upgrade but it didnt update the kernel at all, probably because NAND devices are only supported by the legacy kernel, And yes, I DID use the rk322x-config thingy and no possible configuration gave me working GPU accel. My device has a NAND chip, 952 MB of ram or close and 7G of "disk??" space. dmesg: https://pastebin.com/xRmrye6r (Also, forgot to mention that my One by Wacom drawing tablet doesnt work on it either...) jock
@Neil WolfkidHello! You're a bit out of luck: if you want to use the legacy kernel builds you need to install the multimedia framework, which is unmaintained anymore and probably won't work on latest ubuntu versions (it was conceived for Focal). Mainline kernel builds instead have out-of-the-box support for 3D acceleration via Lima driver, and also hardware video decoding is supported in hardware (but in this case you may need specially crafted software - in few words: it does not work yet out of the box). In case you use mainline builds, you lose access to internal NAND: an experimental driver was brought up, but it happened it was not working as it was meant to.
